  1. Anyone think we could find out next week ? My bets are the 3rd week of jan but just curious ?
  2. Not applying to Sri Lanka but have been working there this past year ! What an amazing country !! Good luck !
  3. Yeah, I did the same thing last year and made a filter to a Fulbright folder in Gmail. Mostly because I didn't want to get a rejection notice unexpectedly on my phone in the middle of work or somewhere I wouldn't have personal space to just process whatever the results were. I'm hoping we hear back by the week of the 16th at the latest. I can't remember, have notifications ever gone out on a weekend?
  4. When is it acceptable to start guessing when we will get our notifications?
  5. Does anyone know what the dates for the pre-orientation in D.C have been for the past few years ? are they typically the same ? I am considering some workshop/job opportunities but I'm nervous about making plans in June (last year was June 9th for my region) and then having the pre-departure orientation end up the same date. Also, does anyone know how strict they are about those orientations if you can't make it ? The ole' might get the Fulbright how do I plan my future in the case I don't get it' dilemma...
  6. I feel crazy waiting around as well and I have applied too many times to even feel like I can consider myself sane. I don't really have any real hope of getting the grant this year because I am doubting myself on the conclusion of my proposal :(. But the only advice I have is to really value your proposal and seek out other ways to apply that same proposal for different funding if for some reason you don't get the Fulbright. Not getting the Fulbright doesn't mean that your hard work should just go to waste. I was a semi-finalist didn't get the grant but was fortunate enough to still get funding and do the project anyway. I'm currently trying to find new things to apply for just to keep myself busy. Cast wide nets as they say. Good luck !
  7. After I submitted I found a million things I wish I would have changed and felt like I made some kind of make or break mistakes. But then after seeing this Fulbright typo ... I have a little new found hope ! HA ! Congrats to everyone who submitted. Now we can all go crazy together while we wait for anuary to role around.
  8. Ahh this is scary ! I had submitted mine already but now I am going to double check. In general, has anyone had any luck with Fulbright un-submitting an application before the deadline I don't have an FPA ? After I submitted I realized there were changes I wanted to make and now I'm freaking out a bit in my head. Also thanks to Horb and Satori for the support !
  9. Same ! 0_0
  10. In addition to the question above ... Anyone applying for the CLEA for a rare language but have yet to start formal training ? I was supposed to start months ago but I was working abroad in other counties unexpectedly. I am interested in still applying bc I will be taking formal classes this fall ( after the application is due). anyone else applying for the CLEA but have yet to start their training ? How did you go about having someone else evaluate you ? I am applying for a Bahada/ Indoneisan and I'm not sure how to go about the language evaluation. I don't want to drop the ball on this as I know I will be taking training. Just poor timing.
  11. Anyone nervous about making plans this summer in case the orientation date ends up being the same date ? Does anyone have any info when the orientations were last year ?
  12. Does anyone know if there are any negative implications of applying "At-Large" instead of applying through a University ?
  13. This is also really helpful !!!!
  14. Thank you !
  15. Does anyone have any advice on how to use positive language within their proposal to work around a semi controversial topic ? I want to research and study the positive conservation projects going on in Indonesia but deforestation is pretty controversial in the country and I don't want to rub the country committee the wrong way or send any red flags. I have specially stated in my proposal that I intend to highlight positive conservation to promote hope, and encourage community engagement blah blah blah but not sure if that alone is enough. Any suggestions ? Also do any of you use any online grammar websites for writing like grammarly ? any other online editors out there you love or suggest ? Hope ya'll are working through your proposals smoothly !
  16. Hi Guys. I have applied 4 times in the past 0_0. I have been a finalist twice. And will be trying one more time. I hope to apply to Indonesia to focus on wildlife conservation. Either Rhino or the human-elephant conflict ! Good luck to all !
  17. Any one anxiously waiting for Fulbright's next application cycle to start tomorrow ? 0_0
  18. Congrats ! This is so true and so awesome to hear.
  19. Yes ! Congrats ! will you have a blog !? I want to stay in touch and live vicariously through you !
  20. Congrats !! HA LOVE THIS MEME !
  21. Just messaged you !
  22. Is there anyone out there who has applied to Indonesia who would be interested in talking about their experience applying ? I noticed there are a few on the spreadsheets but no GradCafe user names. Considering applying again to Indonesia next year.
  23. HA ! Just looking back at this now.
  24. ChetTheDoctor ! Yes ! But its not through the Fulbright I used my Fulbright application and adapted it and was awarded a National Geographic Young Explorers grant. (Also a note to anyone who gets rejected this year DON'T GIVE UP !) I will be reapplying for a Fulbright to Indonesia next year. Hoping the odds/conservation interests work more in my favor that my two applications to Kenya did ! Here is an article that was recently published about my project : dnain.fo/1QT72E7 I also have a blog that I will be updating on my website www.JessicaVanFleteren.com Chethedoctor: You had applied multiple times am I correct ? do you have any suggestions ? I am excited to be applying to a different country.
