  1. @gingin6789 They have not offered me an acceptance as of yet. And thanks! I'll check them out!
  2. I just received an email from a school asking if I had accepted an offer anywhere else and what other programs am I considering? Has this happened to anyone else? What is the best way to respond to the latter question?
  3. I am utterly appalled by Columbia's actions. SO sorry for those affected. For those still waiting to hear from UCI, what does your application status say? Mine says "waiting on supplemental documents" and the site also stated to not contact them to check on status until after some time in February. Wondering if they simply still haven't updated the page or if they are truly missing documents?
  4. Hi guys! I am considering contacting UCSB to ask about the status of my app since I haven't received any news and it seems many others have. Any recommendations on what to say, who to contact, method of contact, etc? Thanks so much!!
  5. Indeed I was. Looks like funding info rolled in yesterday for me as well.
  6. @ThesisTerror724 I will likely be joining you at Irvine. When did you receive funding info, if you don't mind me asking?
  7. Also, any idea where I, or others, may find more reputable sources of ranking rather than US News?? Please forgive my ignorance here.
  8. @sociologyapp2016 Thank you for the input as well. Any advice on my crime vs soc dilemma? Is it better to attend a top 5 criminology program over a sociology program not ranked in the top 20 at the potential cost of limiting future exploration of topics that might come of interests to a criminological approach?
  9. @sts4656 UCLA Rejection here. Generic email to check the site. It actually came in at 2:55 A.M. (What the heck?!?). Just got around to posting it to the results page. @goofylemon Thank you so much for the input! Also, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!
  10. Those with interests in criminology, mind sharing or messaging why you selected a sociology program over a criminology program? While my current interests lie at the heart of criminology, my concern is that I may be placing unknown future limitations on myself by choosing a criminology program over a sociology program (I applied to both). Crim is essentially a facet of sociology and if 10 years from now, my interests shift to some other aspect of race that isn't criminology focused (i.e.: education) I would be limited in how i could approach that topic. Has anyone else thought this a dilemma?? Have any advice to share? Ideally, I would like to attend a sociology program, but it seems it might be the case that I only get into those in the 20-40 rankings. Thus, is it better to attend a top 5 criminology program over a sociology program not ranked in the top 20?
  11. @liesandfish Thanks so much for the input! It's not scattered brain at all! While my current interests lie at the heart of criminology, my concern is that I may be placing unknown future limitations on myself by choosing a criminology program. It is essentially a facet of sociology and if 10 years from now, my interests shift to some other aspect of race that isn't criminology focused (i.e.: education) I would be limited in how i could approach that topic. Has anyone else thought this a dilemma?? Also, to answer your other question, I think ranking and fit are obviously guiding my decisions. Funding is something that could always be negotiated and for me, I don't weigh it heavily enough to essentially influence the course of my future (i.e.: the phd program you attends influences what job you land afterward etc. etc.). With that said, I have to give it some weight as I can't afford to pay out of pocket
