How did you delay using the fellowship for a year? Btw...did you tell them you have your own $$$? That should make a huge difference.
-
Huh, wonder if they invite international students too? Or just sent it to everyone! I really laughed at this email though...like "thanks guys, thanks". I don't know how this works, but my friend who's a phd student currently got one of those last year before he was invited/admitted.
-
Anyone else (American, I'm guessing) get a "reminder" from UMich to save their date for invitation weekend? Kind of an amusing "save this date, but oh btw we haven't invited you yet".
-
Not sure about masters(it kind of depends on if the school funds those people they accept or not), but for PhD, at least the programs I applied to, it seems to be around 5-10% acceptance rate.
-
Nope....they asked me a few questions about my app over email 2 days before the offer was made, but seemed like they had already made their decision. Visit weekend for US students is after they have made their decisions, as far as I understand it.
-
Hmmm....well I got a "don't worry" email from them too a few days before I had a decision. And my decision was good!
-
Hmmm...not sure. Call Adam. Super helpful, and doesn't get mad that you are asking him stuff(that's his sole role @ IEMS) and you don't have to give your name. Might be worth it.
-
Congrats! You should email them/call.

I posted mine! None of my friends applied to THIS school(and I'm not going to post about any schools that the only other person in my program is applying to. It was cool....my professors from my department and I are friends on fb...and all of them were immediately "liking" my status or commenting positively.

I was thinking that in a few years we'll have to hang out at INFORMS and meet each other.... :-)
-
Sorry, what does IMO mean? BTW....why do you think I should cross Mich off? I mean, it is #2 in IE rankings(although, I didn't apply to GaTech). I'm curious!
-
http://www.iems.northwestern.edu/research/healthcare.html I'm crossing my fingers for an NSF Fellowship so I can sort of mold a PhD program into indiscipl research. Based on my convos with NU last summer, PhD students don't worry about specializing or picking a topic until after the first year, because they want to give you a chance to see all faculty research. I was also told that often faculty members from diff depts work with one student for their interests. My energy interests sort of lie in minimizing energy consumptions for distribution systems in rural areas. I think this could align well with Karen Smilowitz 's logistics interests. But who knows? I plan on asking them lots of questions at the info weekend.

It is my first choice, but I'm going to wait until I see how two other schools(Stanford and Michigan) pan out. I'm tempted to email back right away with a "yes!" but I think it would be wise to wait a few weeks and see what happens.

Thanks! ORMalv...you're right..I felt awesome this morning! My IE department here is really happy for me..I'm from a big state school that rarely has people get into top programs, especially with funding. So I'm really humbled by this. :-) I don't know about the UMich thing...I haven't heard anything from them...wonder if they are sending out "for sure" rejections first and then weeding through the people that they want?
-
NU is my top choice. :-)))))) I'm interested in OR/sim with a focus on healthcare or energy.
-
No, I was the 2nd one. Who's the mystery person I wonder?
-
Hey guys! I got recommended for admission to Northwestern!
-
It was a notification...ORmalv and I got it about the same time(one was for domestic group and one was for international group). I really have no clue what it means..I know they do several rounds, so keep your spirits high!
-
Are you from Singapore? Did you graduate from NUS?
-
I got that email from Northwestern as well ~ "one of our highly rated international applicants...blablablah" Well, hope it's a good sign:) but honestly I think they only meant "Don't send any more emails asking your status!"...... And I got a admission from North Carolina State U~ my decision was made on Jan.13 (but my email account blocked the email and I just knew it~), saying "Admission status: full admission; Assistantship: your major department will contact you"~ (I think they meant interview maybe~)
-
I just meant in general. I haven't heard anything about "in or not in" from NU, but I have received an email from them asking me some questions about something in my application from the Grad Director. So I'm really hoping they finalize it next week for domestics. That would make sense, because the visit is late Feb. Got an email from Univ Fl for a visit invite yesterday!
-
You got that too? I got the same email almost word for word a little over a week ago. PM and let me know the name...it'd be interesting if it were the same!
-
I have had a week of at least one email a day from a school(even Sat!)....all vague: either questions or communication from profs or something along the lines as "we think you might qualify for this funding source, and finding funding for students in part of the process of admitting them for us. please expand on how you are committed to diversity" Stressful...adcomms should just let me know!
-
Wow! Thanks! Have you heard back from anywhere? I've been obsessing this week too...

I want to do healthcare OR or energy OR. I like the medical side of OR...think radiation optimization stuff, or energy = modeling energy use/systems and figuring out how to minimize energy consumption based on logistics. I could babble about it, but mainly i want to do OR for "the good" of society, aiming at changing policies based on math-y reasoning. In normal people speak. :-)
