  1. Aww, congrats! That's fantastic.
  2. Hiya! I visited there earlier this month (not on an official invite; I was just in the area) and they told me to expect to hear from them early/mid-Feb.
  3. Should I give up all hope for UPenn, then? Not that I had much hope to begin with, mind you...
  4. Haha! I'm actually kind of glad that it only shows up as "restricted," because if it said one of the states my schools are in, I'd probably freak out.
  5. Today while I was at work I had a missed call from a blocked number and my first thought was, "that was probably either a POI or the mafia." My brain is so weird.
  6. Oooh, congrats and good luck! Just checked my spam folder just in case.
  7. That's great! I really wish I'd e-mailed the profs before I applied. I e-mailed them in November, so my applications weren't officially submitted, but they were mostly done. I think it's good to figure out what's a good fit for you not only research-wise, but personality-wise as well. I'm so glad I visited some schools because it really helped me with that!
  8. Yeah, it was really great! At both schools, they all said, "you should come here- it's great!" and I was like, "umm, I haven't even been accepted yet, but I'll keep that in mind!" They both said I should hear in February or early March at the latest. I'm hoping for sooner rather than later! Have you e-mailed with any profs yet?
  9. I did! At IU, they recommended that I dual apply to French Linguistics, since I'm thinking of double majoring in Ling and French Ling. The grad students were really helpful at both schools. I'm way more excited about both programs now that I've visited! I did a lot with Canadian varieties of French during my Master's program, so yes, I'm interested in dialectology. Also interested in social aspects of child language acquisition (especially bilingual children) and language variation and contact (especially French/English contact in Quebec and Acadia). Sounds like you might enjoy L'Eloge du Chiac- it's a movie they made in the 60s about a class of students (some Chiac speakers and some non-speakers) and their opinions on Chiac and language use in their community. Have you seen it?
  10. I visited Indiana U and U of Illinois. I just e-mailed the departments to set up a visit, but it was really just meeting a couple profs and some current students. Not really a formal interview kind of thing. I was in the area because my sister goes to IU (she's in a PhD program) and I went to visit her. So, I'm applying to some of the same schools you are, but I only applied to 6 programs: Indiana (applying for Ling and French Ling departments), Illinois, Michigan, Pitt, and UPenn. Apart from my e-mail correspondence with potential advisors, I haven't heard a peep!
  11. Hey, I know you!
  12. Hi there, Socioling buddy! I am getting pretty nervous, too. I just visited 2 schools this week because I was in the area and it's just making me anxious!
