  1. I was told that all decisions have been sent to the Social Sciences Division for finalization. As for what that means -- I have no clue. If I had to guess I'd say the rest of us are getting the axe. What about UCSD? I still haven't heard anything either way.
  2. I've been finding people smaller than me to beat up on. If that doesn't do the trick, try beating them up on them after drinking a pint of whiskey.
  3. Today has been an ego breaker. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted or waitlisted!
  4. Spoke with Columbia admin this morning (she was very nice). Not all PhD decisions have been made and the MA decisions have at least a few more weeks.
  5. Did anyone else get the "Choosing the Right Graduate Program" e-mail from Chicago? That was fun. Also not an acceptance letter.
  6. Same here. Morale is getting painfully low. Hopefully good news is on the way.
  7. Your comment reminded me of this dialogue from the Simpsons which immediately got stuck in my head. I actually had to Google it. Beekeeper 1: Well, sure is quiet in here today. Beekeeper 2: Yes, a little too quiet, if you know what I mean. Beekeeper 1: Hmm... I'm afraid I don't. Beekeeper 2: You see, bees usually make a lot of noise. No noise - suggests no bees! Beekeeper 1: Oh, I understand now. [a bee flies by] Beekeeper 1: Oh look, there goes one now. Beekeeper 2: To the Beemobile! Beekeeper 1: You mean your Chevy? Beekeeper 2: [pause] Yes.
  8. I haven't heard anything either. The department told me via e-mail that everyone would be notified by Friday. Although, in the past I've languished on the waitlist there until May. Fun!
  9. Does anyone have information on the UNC situation? I'm beginning to think I am alphabetically cursed. My head just gets to the chopping block last in the rejection rounds.
  10. Did everyone else receive the Stanford e-mail unsolicited? I wrote the dept. this morning and assumed it was a follow-up. And it looks like two acceptances posted today. Well ... California would have been great.
  11. How were the initial admits/rejections notified? Via the department? POIs? Graduate Division? There seem to be quite a few of us that are in limbo here.
  12. The final hammer is supposed to come down today for UNC for anyone else out there waiting (If I understood the admissions office correctly). I think today might be devastating ...
  13. Well. I haven't been rejected from Berkeley. Yet. The day is still young on the west coast however. Did I not pay may app fee?
  14. I wish I could say it was my first rejection. At this rate I'm gonna be on the used car lot looking for that red sports car Peter Griffin-style very soon.
  15. The POI lamented that it is difficult for programs to admit older students. I should have probably asked for more detail! The arguments can cut either way. And I certainly didn't (still don't) think I'm a demographic anomaly. And I still feel like I'm 19. So it made me curious how many others applying are in their early 30s. I guess there are a few of us judging from the responses.
  16. Has anyone over 30 been accepted into a program? Over 25? Are there any age-related statistics out there? I'm curious about the role age (may or may not) play in admissions after a conversation with a POI yesterday.
  17. Does anyone want to claim the UNC admit? I am going to run out of fingernails really quickly this year.
  18. I like the idea of an interview. I really like it. I'm just not sure I see the utility. I don't know what information that they don't already have that I could supply that would be helpful in making a decision
  19. I find that modeling my writing on my favorite author(s) is really helpful. If they have a style that is articulate, particularly persuasive, clear, and concise, I try and emulate it. I think this might actually be the oldest trick in the book. No pun intended.
  20. My thoughts exactly.
  21. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted for far. I wonder if Texas is sending out acceptances in batches or all at once (like they have in the past). If it's the latter it looks like I'm looking down the barrel of rejection #1.
