  1. So I'm considering UW-Madison for my PhD starting this Fall. (I'm really torn between Madison and U of Michigan) I was in Madison for an interview weekend in Feb. but I'm not convinced I really got to see what the city was like. I know about State st. and walked down it a couple of times, but is that it? Is State st the main/only place for a cluster of restaurants, coffee shops, stores and so on? Or is there more spread out throughout the city that I just didn't get a chance to see? I'm coming from NYC and was born and raised here and I am a bit worried about going stir crazy... Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Thanks Bio1 and AlexM, My helix is definitely my favorite, if nothing else it’s hilarious and infinitely nerdy. What better way to convince the admissions committee of my level of dedication? (only kidding) 3/4 length sleeves it is then. I suppose after being accepted is the best time to scandalize them with the truth… sigh… guess I’m going shopping.
  3. What are peoples thoughts on visible tattoos and piercings over the interview weekend? I have 2 visible tattoos one small and one quite large on my arms (transmembrane helix on my wrist and a poem on my upper arm) and a tongue ring. I am also a girl if that makes a difference. My mother (who has always hated them) has impressed upon me that long sleeves and a clear plastic bar instead of my normal metal in thetongue is a must. Does anyone else think this is really necessary; I mean it is science and pretty laid back, right? Or do I need to cover up?
  4. Yeah I did that too deadlines from Dec. 1st through Jan. 15. Except now my Jan. 15th school just called me and invited me to interview! Great but I haven't heard from more then half of the Dec. deadline schools Including my first choice). Talk about making the anxiety worse instead of better!!!
  5. Is anyone else out there applying to University of Chicago's Biophysics program? Apparently this is the first year they are doing their admissions as a separate departmentand they have essentially no information available. Has anyone heard anything? The waiting is killing me!
