  1. I don't think so. If it looked personal, then we might still have hope. I mean, could I be saying this because it's the last Soc program I'm holding out for, sure. But I think it's a logical argument, nonetheless.
  2. Yay! Good luck! I know Oregon is a really small program, but I really loved it when I visited.
  3. Do you know if it was a personal email or a mass email? Eee! Biting nails!
  4. Bummer. Hope things work out better for your other schools!
  5. Is anyone out there still awaiting a response from Oregon (like I am!)?
  6. I've been rejected from Berkeley, which was expected, but somehow still hurt like hell. Then wait-listed at UW, which felt like a victory, but I know it doesn't change my situation. And now that all the Michigan applicants have been notified, I'm expecting bad news from them as well, and that's my alma mater. It's so terrible to think that people who KNOW me actually went through my file and said no, not qualified. Now everything hinges on Oregon, and I'm having to face the very real possibility that I am not going to grad school this year. (and of course, because we are in the pit of despair, I'll add on my melodramatic "OR EVER.")
  7. Yep - Got my wait-list letter on Monday, and I'm on the east coast. Hopefully people will start to decline soon!
  8. Personal correspondence (mine). I guess that means wait-listed and rejection notices come in the mail, huh?
  9. Ha! Today I practically tore apart my bag looking for my ringing cell phone, and it turned out to be an automated message, which is probably good, since I may have gone ballistic if it had been a real live salesperson. I've actually slammed my phone down after one such incident, and cracked the screen... whoops.
  10. Okay, here goes. Decent GPA 3.4 at a tough school - 2 years Dean's List. In-Field Honor Society member Glowing (surely) LORs written by three well-known scholars in my field RA for one of my letter writers, who is pretty influential I applied to my alma mater, so they should like me, right? Studied in Russia, then lived abroad after graduating Wrote my thesis and writing sample under one of the leading scholars in the country Time off from school let me rack up tons of work experience with labor unions, non-profits, etc. During my time off from school, continuous participation in the professional association Great meetings with potential advisors Meticulously chosen schools that align with my research and professional interests (I think this is the part where I start to worry...)
