  1. Congratulations everyone who got accepted to McGill! I also did not make into McGill. I am not super surprised but of course disappointed.

I hope to have better luck at the Ontario schools. My GPA is 3.73 and subGPA is 3.95 according to ORPAS. I also have about 300 volunteer hours with two different populations and conference presentations/research experience. I guess McGill is looking for something specific. They said they had to turn down a lot of great applicants because they received approximately 400 applications this year and could only admit 28 students.

Got my rejection notice from McGill this afternoon too. Speechful, did they say that in your letter, that they received 400 applications? My letter didn't mention that... Was it from the department or from graduate studies?(not that this matters much at this point). Good luck everyone with your other schools! All the best.

  2. lakegirl, I'm so happy for you, congratulations!!! Hats off for your perseverance. And thank you for posting this. I'm feeling pretty low right now and your post has given me hope and encouragement to dust it off, make my application better and try again next year. Thank you.

  3. Don't be negative!! I only heard from them late yesterday afternoon! They probably haven't finished contacting people yet, so you might hear from them next week! :) But yes, I'll send you my stats!

Congratulations to all who got accepted and waitlisted! I'm trying to stay positive here (for a spot on the waitlist) while also going over and over plans B, C, D in my head. conohan, could you please send your stats to me as well?

Good luck to those still waiting, for McGill and elsewhere!

  4. Congrats to everyone who has been getting acceptances today! I just got one from McGill and Dal!

Congrats again toriec! It must feel so good to be accepted by three schools, way to go!

Are you the poster who posted about your acceptance on the results page this afternoon? And if so, is that your sGPA or your cGPA?

  5. Hi.

Was a longtime lurker so I made an account to post this.

Can confirm, a professor from the department calls you personally to announce acceptance, inform that the formal letter is in the mail, and you have until April 8th to accept their offer.

    Goodluck peeps!

    Hi!

Congrats Mr. Bombastic! I'd also appreciate it if you could send me your stats please. Thank you for posting! :-) Oh, and also, did your status change on uapply?

  6. Just got rejected from my #1 school, Pacific University. It was also my only option to stay in Portland. Looks like I'll be moving no matter what in the Fall! Very nervous since I've never lived away from my home city. New adventure right?

    Right! :-)

I'm really sorry you didn't get in your #1 school... But going to school in another city can be a really wonderful -and exciting- experience. (Speaking from experience

  7. After three long years of applying I was finally accepted to the University of New Mexico! Don't give up, I didn't and look where I am now and it feels beyond amazing knowing how hard I had to fight for this dream of becoming an SLP!! Yay!! Good luck to all of you still waiting to hear! Xo love my grad cafe slpeeps!

  8. Hey guys! It is starting to get exciting!

I also got into U of A! Two days ago they sent me the email :) :) After being rejected from three schools last year I was soooo excited to get that acceptance letter that I jumped up from my bed and screamed waking up my roomate. For anyone who doesn't get in this year do not give up!

Congratulations kats!! So happy for you!

What do you think made a difference for you? I'm already trying to think about what I could do to make my application more competitive if I don't get in anywhere this year.

  9. Exactly! It's highly competitive and it sucks that some people who would make great SLP's don't get in. I unfortunately, financially can only apply once, and can only apply to one school in my area. That's why backups are needed for me.

The thing with OT is I think it is majority working with elderly patients, there is not as much for pediatrics from what I hear. Has anyone heard differently?

I don't know about that. I went to an OT with my daughter for a year when she was in 3rd grade. The OT did all kinds of games and exercises with her to increase her muscle strength in general, but with an emphasis on her neck, shoulders, etc. It greatly helped with her posture when she works at her desk and the way she holds her pencil. That was a pediatric OT clinic. I loved the way they worked, their treatment plans, etc. I even considered applying to an OT program, but it had more basic science prerequisites than I was willing to do.

  10.

Applied to McGill, U of T, Western

    Rejected    0/2    Wait listed  0/2    Accepted   0/2

    Hi and welcome Mandaleelocke!

Well I for one share your pain and anxiety!  ;) Seriously, your GPA and experience sound really competitive! And as for how many people McGill accepts out of province, from what I read on their website, I think they don't have a set number. I think they just accept the 27 or so "best" wherever they come from. Has anyone heard any different?

    Good luck with your application!

  11. Congratulations MonicaSLP! Glad your hard work paid off!  :)

I got waitlisted/rejected first time around from the only school I applied to  - GRE V160, Q154, 4.5. GPA 3.34. Returning student.

I took all the prereqs at USU, brought my GPA up to 3.41 by getting all As. And got into the first choice school this time, just by getting those As - nothing else changed. Only heard from the one school so far, but it's the most competative of the ones I applied to.

  12. Hi there,

I worked as a research assistant for the SCSD at Beatty Hall last year. They were going through their move/transition during May/June and were set up in their new location by July/August (2014). They're now located at 2001 McGill College. I've been to the new site a couple of times and can say it's definitely a lot better than the old one..! Granted, it doesn't have as much "charm" as BH, but its accessibility and AC (!) make it pretty great! It's located in a financial area/building, while also being not too far from campus. You can get off at the "McGill College" exit, at McGill metro, and walk less than five minutes to get to the building! The whole eight floor is SCSD. It's modern and very office-like lol... I've seen more of the "research" side of it and less of the "school" side of it though.

Best of luck with your applications! :)

Thank you papillonbleu22! Are you presently enrolled at McGill, or are you applying for the Applied Masters program for Fall 2015? If so, best of luck to you too!

  13. Hey all,

This thread is so quiet this week! Any news, anyone? Nothing seems so be moving at McGill, which is totally normal but I keep checking several times a day just in case. ;-)

Speaking of McGill, I heard the department moved from Beatty Hall, where it used to be. Has anyone seen the new site or heard anything about it?

  14. I hate how much they weigh my first undergrad degree in the Sub GPA..... good bye U of T chances.

Also... yes... that housing email made me spit out my coffee

    Hi VancitySLP,

They counted your 1st undergrad degree in your subGPA?? And how long ago was it? I have a first degree also from many many years ago... Does it always count in the cGPA? Like someone said on another thread, it's like a prison record or something. I hope they take into account how a person has changed over the years.

  15. I'm getting pretty antsy with this waiting game as well. I am a second year applicant with 3 years of relevant experience.

Applied to: University of South Florida, Richard Stockton College, William Patterson, New York Medical College, The College of Saint Rose, Long Island University-Post, Duquesne University, Edinboro University, Temple University, LaSalle University, University of Houston, University of Texas-El Paso, Radford University, Longwood University, Old Dominion University, Southern CT State University

Awaiting on 17 schools for Summer/Fall Admission

Yep, the waiting is driving me crazy too. I can't imagine going through this more than once (although I might have to). Hat's off to you and good luck!
