  1. I think it's really difficult to answer your question just because of the ambiguity of the admissions process. BUT I think it's possible. I had a high V and low Q score and got into several programs.
  2. Answer to 2 & 8 I would personally stick to the application rules regarding your application. The adcom goes through a ton of applications, and while I don't know this to be 100% true, I would assume that not following the rules of the application would not look good. Just my two cents.
  3. My undergraduate institution's transcript says void/photocopied when it is copied too. However, during my application cycle, I didn't have a problem with it. Once I was admitted/chose a school, they asked me to send an official copy. I'm under the impression that at most grad schools don't mind, but will ask for an official copy once you accept their offer,
  4. it could be bad news. or it could possible that you're on some sort of unofficial waitlist. I would try to not read ~too~ much into it (easy for me to say). at this point, no news is good news
  5. from what I've gathered, most institutions abide by the official decision day of April 15th
  6. I'm sorry you're dealing with all this. this may be slightly direct, but like just remember that this is YOUR life. you're tryna study sociology for YOU and YOUR life. not saying you should dismiss your loved ones, but just remember it's your life and goals and nobody else's. sending positive vibes <3
  7. yes it seems generally acceptable, based on other threads I've read on grad cafe. not all places seem to reply/divulge the info, but others seem to. good luck!
  8. a bit of a slow week in terms of decisions. hope yall hanging in there!
  9. I would guess y'all got in @sarahdf & @maxine0451! a program I got into (not Madison) was approved by the department first and then went to the graduate college for final approval. I think the graduate college just likes to double check you meet the minimum requirements & that they can fund you. look up "recommended for admission" on this site tentative congratulations!!!
  10. FWIW, it seems like the fresh out of undergrad vs work experience is a ymmv type thing. I know people who got into UCBerk Sociology fresh out of undergrad, but I know another who was rejected from a T10 school & was told that they prefer applicants have time out of undergrad.
  11. thank you!! and yes they did include funding information in the letter hopefully you hear soon!!
  12. hey everyone—been peepin this page for a while & thought i would join. hope everyone is holding up okay and congratulations to all yall that got in! @ritsukot74 i was the UIUC acceptance. i haven't heard anything about UIC, but i didn't apply there tho. hopefully you hear soon!
