When do we find out about OGS/CGS-M(SSHRC)?

While the website I posted only showed schools from the US, the same rules apply in Canada as stated by the Canadian Psychological Association. The policy by the CPA has been in place since 1979 and states that: Departments will endeavour to make offers of admission and/or support to applicants before April 1st. Applicants have until April 15th to accept an offer of admission. After April 15, offers will be made only to applicants who state that they are not committed to another department. If you would like to read it for yourself you can examine the link below which will connect you to the CPA Graduate Guide but make no mistake, all schools in Canada and the US must give applicants until April 15th to accept or decline an offer. Therefore, if any school pressures you to make a decision before April 15th you can tell them you will be taking all the time you want because that is your right. http://www.cpa.ca/docs/File/Publications/Graduate%20Guide%202010-2011%20Final%20Copy.pdf -

I don't know what schools you have applied to but if they gave you a March deadline that is just inconsiderate. According to the Council of Graduate Schools' Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees, and Assistants, schools must give applicants up until April 15th to accept or reject graduate school offers. As far as I know, or knew, all schools in Canada and the US adhere to this regulation. The April 15th Resolution is described further on the following website: http://www.cgsnet.org/april-15-resolution -

I wouldn't be worried just yet. Saskatchewan doesn't do interviews from what I've heard and if you look on the results page you can see that people from the last few years have not gotten responses until March with the most common reporting date being March 12th. So you've got another two or three weeks yet before you should even think about worrying.

My application had the same "Interim Review" status from December right up until last week. I received my official admission offer on Jan. 30th but my status on the UVic webpage didn't change for about a week so they clearly don't update it very often. As for clinical, it seems that most universities send out the experimental offers first followed by the clinical offers a few weeks after so you should expect to hear something during the last week of February/first week of March. This seems to make sense because if you look up Victoria in the "Results Search" section you can see that two people listed that they were accepted to the clinical program during the first few days of March in 2014. Best of luck to and in case you haven't seen it already here are the stats on UVic's clinical program: http://www.uvic.ca/socialsciences/psychology/assets/docs/clinic/applicationsOffersAndEnrollments.pdf

Most people who complete a PhD in experimental psychology want to pursue an academic career as a university professor/researcher but that certainly is not the only avenue to take. You can also work for private research companies or even the government. Meanwhile other experimental psychologists work as applied psychologists for marketing/advertising companies.

I totally agree FliesKites. I think Ryerson was one of the first schools to send out offers so they're just the "hot" school right now but more schools will start coming up more often as offers start to flow throughout February. Thanks FliesKites. I emailed potential supervisors ahead of time and made sure they were taking someone before I applied to their schools and I only applied to experimental programs which tend to be 'easier' to get accepted to than clinical programs so I think that has a lot to do with my acceptances. Best of luck to you with your applications

I think DeltaSkelta is exactly right. If you look at the table it says Ryerson sent out 13 clinical offers and they ended up accepting 8 students. This means that they likely had 5 people decline offers and then sent out additional offers to those next in line on the wait list. This makes sense because if you look at the accepted row you can see that Ryerson takes about 9 students for clinical each year which isn't surprising given they accept a total of about 15.

Oh. This makes more sense and the people I know who applied to clinical will be happy to hear it. Thanks for letting me know 3minutes.

IMA Current Iowa State Student -- Anyone have questions?
Tacoma replied to mlannie's topic in Psychology Forum
Thanks for all the info mlannie. -
I thought all the Ryerson acceptances had went out two weeks ago but maybe I'm wrong? I had an interview on Jan. 8th and then received an official offer on Jan. 15th. The offer letter I received states that "In total, over 350 applications were received for our graduate program, and only about 15 students are being admitted across the two MA fields (clinical psychology and psychological science)." So I would imagine by now they have sent out all the offers and are waiting to hear back to see who accepts and who declines.

Regarding (undergraduate) honors thesis
Tacoma replied to TenaciousBushLeaper's topic in Psychology Forum
Ya, six classes would burn anyone out so no wonder you felt that way. My honours thesis examines prejudice in the judicial system as well as the impact of computer mediated communication (CMC) versus face-to-face (Ftf) communication. Participants come to my study and read one of two criminal history reports. The history report states that a perpetrator was found guilty of severely injuring (gunshot wound followed by lengthy hospital stay) a homeowner while breaking into a home and that they (the participant) must now suggest a prison sentence for perpetrator in years and months up to a maximum of 25 years. The two criminal history reports are identical in every way excepting for the race of the perpetrator, which is manipulated as being either Caucasian or Aboriginal. After reading the report, the participants are asked for their suggested sentence as well as a few follow up questions before filling out the Marlowe-Crowne social desirability scale and a demographics questionnaire. The other manipulation is whether the participant is in the CMC or Ftf condition. In the CMC condition participants provide their sentence and answer the follow up questions over a lab computer while in the Ftf condition the participants give their suggested sentence and answer the follow up questions in person. The research questions I am interested in are: 1). Do people assign more punitive sentences to Aboriginals than to Caucasians; and 2.) Do people assign more punitive sentences in CMC than in Ftf situations. -
Regarding (undergraduate) honors thesis
Tacoma replied to TenaciousBushLeaper's topic in Psychology Forum
Ya, if you're doing six courses at a time including your honours thesis you're definitely not lazy. I only have three classes right now while I'm doing my honours plus TA and RA work and that is more than enough to keep me busy so good on you for being able to handle six. -
Regarding (undergraduate) honors thesis
Tacoma replied to TenaciousBushLeaper's topic in Psychology Forum
I don't think you're being lazy at all. An honours thesis is easily as much work as an average class if not more but with far less structure and guidance. Although for me at least I have found that the very beginning of the year and the very end are where most of the hard work takes place/will take place (i.e., ethics application and revisions at the beginning and data analysis/manuscript preparation at the end). Also, are the courses at your university worth 5 credits each? Just wondering how many courses 20 credit hours works out to? Where I go to school that would be 6 or 7 classes as they are 3 credits each and I've seen other schools where classes are 1.5 credits each. -
I think the longest for me was a week. I had my Skype interview for Ryerson on Jan. 8th and I received my official offer on Jan. 15th. For other schools I was told at the end of the interview that I was accepted as was the case for me with Carleton.

I received my official offer for the experimental program at UVic on Jan. 30 after receiving an unofficial offer from my potential supervisor in December. You can also check on the status of your application on the UVic application page (https://www.uvic.ca/BAN2P/bzsklogn.p_display_login) but it is a bit slow to update.
