  1. Saskatchewan and Alberta are taking way too long....... has anyone heard anything from those schools?
  2. Sorry to hear that.. there's still hope you'll get into Saskatchewan
  3. If they are interested in your application, your email won't change anything, unless you are going to flood them with you inquiries)) I say send a short email and calm down! btw I sent emails to several schools I've applied to, don't think it did any harm.
  4. Same here, I was waking up several times at night to check my email %) in my case there is a time differencee, so I usually receive emails at night...
  5. I had an interview in November and still no response)) I emailed the department and they said the meeting regarding my application will only be held this week. So don't worry, there also might be a chance that they are waiting to hear about scholarships for you from other departments.
  6. Thanks, where you accepted to the program? My interview will be at the end of this month, the POI said we will talk about my interests and experience. I had an interview at another school and it really seemed like a casual talk, the POI was so kind and welcoming, as if I was already accepted. But I don't know the result of that interview yet.
  7. I have a similar question. I got a very kind acceptance email, and I want to explain that I have an interview at another university.. But should I really write explicitly that I am waiting to hear from other schools; or just say thank you and keep silence until I can surely accept or reject the offer?
  8. 1. I would recommend buying a GRE prep book in order to know what topics you need to know. But for you it will be difficult to memorize everything at once. What I did is listening to YouTube videos on various topics. For instance, there is an into psych course from Yale taught by Paul Bloom, it is funny and covers a lot of different topics as well. In order to memorized clinical theories I listened to interviews of famous clinical psychologists. You can find anything there, it a great tool, which is free as well. 3. Any outside experience is great. If you can get it, that will be perfect 4. I didn't have to ask to become a co-author: I just signed up to be a part of a research team. A product of our research was an article, and our names were listed as co-authors. But publishing does take long, I agree with the previous comment. It can take a year before the article will actually be published. But if it was already accepted, you can safely write in your CV that the article is (in press).
  9. Could anyone who had been interviewed at Guelph (clinical applicants too) share your experience? Is the interview more like a formality or it is a serious step of the admission process? Where you offered admission after the interview?
  10. I contacted a grad secretary at Guelph (psychology department), her name is Robin and she was very nice, she actually replied my emails from home.
  11. I had a rejection first too (a very rude one I must say), and lost hope for one day. Stay positive
  12. Got accepted today into Lakehead, but not much funding and no TA. Also got shortlisted for an interview at Guelph Feel soooo relieved. I got rejected from Waterloo, but wasn't my top choice so I don't care.
  13. Clinical programs are very competitive, even at mediocre schools. I think your work experience and future involvement in psych labs would be a great benefit (especially if you can manage to co-author a paper). I think it would be better to retake GRE,although you writing score is good enough as it is. Agree with the others, you really need to take psych GRE (and score > 740).It would be nice if your LORs will be from psychology professors who will be able to say that you have all the skills and knowledge needed to become a clinical psychologist. Good luck!
  14. I kind of think clinical psychologists get less training in research just because they have to focus on their counseling skills. As for admissions: I emailed Saskatchewan, and surprisingly the coordinator answered very fast. He said they are still in the process of decision-making, and will announce decisions soon... Apparently they don't conduct interviews with social psych applicants.
  15. I am actually wondering about the same thing regarding clinical psychologists. I mean it is a very specific job that calls for a certain personality and skills, which are not very common... Yet there are 2-4 times more applicants to this field that to other fields of psychology. Why is it so popular? I think a balance is needed among different fields of psychology, so that clinical psychologists can base their practice on research and achievements in other areas.
  16. Did anyone apply to experimental program at U of New Brunswick? I am wondering if they conduct interviews at all. The interview process is mentioned in the description of the admissions criteria to the clinical stream, but not to the experimental... Same for the Applied Social at Saskatchewan, nothing about interviews on the website (but for clinical they clearly state that intetviews are conducted).
  17. I emailed Dr Hodson before applying. He answered that he would supervise my research and encouraged me to apply. But it was more like a short generic email; maybe the professors have to encourage everyone to apply, just so that the schools can earn money on the application fees. :|
  18. I am an international student, do you think international applicants had their interviews already as well? (My POI is Dr Hodson)
  19. Thanks for replies. I am an international applicant, so I dont expect to be invited to open house etc., but I also think my chances at Ontario schools are slim. Waterloo POI told me that they admit few international students, Guelph and Brock POIs weren't very enthusiastic in their emails too. The POIs in New Brunswick and Alberta were very kind and supportive.
  20. Last time I heard from Saskatchewan, the grad assistant wrote me that final decisions are made around mid-January. POI from New Brunswick told me that the committee is meeting in mid-January and students are typically contacted in the late Jan. But grad assistant said that decisions are usually made in early-mid February.
  21. Hi everyone! I've apied to Waterloo, U of Alberta, U of Saskatchewan, Guelph, Brock,New Brunswick and Lakehead. Has anyone heard anything from these schools yet? I've had only one interview with the POI at the U of Alberta in November. It seems that Canadian schools are slower than the US schools in their admissions, why so?
  22. I've had an interview with POI (University of Alberta) back in November, as I was notified, my file is now being reviewed by the admissions committee. U of Saskatchewan is the most frustrating school: no status updates, no replies to e-mails (the assistant is out of the office most of the time); although the POI was very kind to me, but I don't want to bother him with questions. Also applied to Waterloo, Guelph, Brock, New Brunswick and Lakehead as my safety school. Haven't heard anything from any of those yet.
