  1. I'm looking for a place to share in Baltimore, in the Charles Village, Hampden, or Mt. Vernon areas.  I'm attending Hopkins (Homewood) this fall.  PM me if you're in the same situation, and would like to to be roomies next year.

  2. I emailed Harvard, Columbia, and USCB over the past 2 couple of weeks.

Harvard: terrible timing as I they put the rejection letter up for everyone that day a couple of hours later!

Columbia: saying my decision is still pending and it should be available by mid/late March.

USCB: to wait for early March (accepted yesterday).

I emailed my POI from Columbia awhile back, and s/he responded right away with an explanation: Columbia decided to expand its US and modern Europe cohort this year.  I'm an early modernist so obviously, I did not get in.  I have not received my official rejection email/letter either.  This is a clear example of a school that could notify applicants sooner of its decision.

  3. Hi all! I just heard about this sight a couple of weeks ago (great timing, as that's when the decisions started flowing). Thanks for keeping me sane the last few weeks. It's nice to hear how other people are faring and know when schools are starting to send decisions out (and give me something to check constantly besides email and application status). Good luck in all of your remaining applications!

Wow!  Congrats, Jayray11, on an impressive acceptance record!

  4. Seriously! I don't get why there is a lag between acceptances and rejections. Just let people know at the same time and put them out of their misery. A rejection is a rejection, it's not like we're waitlisted or anything...and if we are, let us know!

    Seriously!

  5. Looks like Harvard has done its acceptances. Does anyone know if they do wait-listing?  I assume most people who get accepted to Harvard go to Harvard.

I know someone who turned Harvard down and went to Berkeley, after attending its open house.

  6. I received this really helpful advice from a POI who has been a dream to me during this process. I thought I'd share an excerpt here:

"Remember, too, when you get offers - or don’t - that universities are looking both to the quality of the student’s thinking and writing, and to the need to match up the student with appropriate supervision. It’s common enough that the ‘match’ isn’t right no matter what the quality, and for a student to embark upon something as long and difficult as a doctorate without the right supervision is a disaster waiting to happen. I say that because from your perspective, too, the match needs to be right - ie you need to be confident that you’re going to receive the kind of guidance you need. So it’s the university assessing things from its side, and the applicant should be doing precisely the same. In other words, a two-way process."

Aaammmeeennn.... (also a nod to your religious history field)
