I'm looking for a place to share in Baltimore, in the Charles Village, Hampden, or Mt. Vernon areas. I'm attending Hopkins (Homewood) this fall. PM me if you're in the same situation, and would like to to be roomies next year.

I emailed my POI from Columbia awhile back, and s/he responded right away with an explanation: Columbia decided to expand its US and modern Europe cohort this year. I'm an early modernist so obviously, I did not get in. I have not received my official rejection email/letter either. This is a clear example of a school that could notify applicants sooner of its decision.

That is extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate of them (and other schools)...

In response to the discussion of institution or departmental prestige, here's a question that, I believe, we should all consider: Does the institution/department hire its own graduates or does it hire from higher-ranked/more prestigious institutions?

I just hope that UPenn and Columbia put me out of my misery by sending out formal rejection letters tomorrow so I can finally cross them off of my list...
