Pretty strong chance I'm gonna end up at Santa Cruz. BUT I am visiting UIC soon too. I got a better funding package from Santa Cruz but I really want to visit both before I decide. It's ultimately going to come down to research opportunities.

Well, you applied to some seriously competitive programs... If it doesn't work out this year, maybe try again next year at different schools! I was denied a few years ago to my top choices. I just applied again this year and got in! So it can happen. Hang in there.

I got in to UIC. Biggest hole in my application was my quantitative GRE score (a sorry 147) but my verbal and writing were good. Other parts of my application were strong too, including strong LOR's. I have yet to hear back from Santa Cruz and CUNY!

From UIC or UIUC? I didn't think that UIC released anything yet... ... at least I hope not! Haha. They were my "back up" school...

I applied to programs in Marxist sociology, political economy, social movements and globalization. Even more specifically, I applied to study issues surrounding water (water justice, conflicts, movements, etc). I hope I wasn't *too* narrow!
