Thanks for this thread. What about the atmosphere at Princeton and its surrounding area? -

Sorry if this question was asked before, but I couldn't find the relevant info. How do the New Graduate College and the Old Graduate College compare? I'm thinking of applying for a single. Also, why are the studios at Lawrence so cheap? Any problems with them? One more question - what happens after end of May? Are grad students allowed to live elsewhere in the summer or do they have to stick to the residency requirement?

Hi all, I have an offer from Vanderbilt, and I will most likely decline in mid-March (or earlier). I'm saying most likely because I currently hold an offer from Princeton (Politics) and the only reason why I haven't declined Vanderbilt is because my partner has also applied there (for a different field). In the event that my partner lands an offer from there, I *might* consider going there, but even then, it is unlikely simply because the research fit is not as good as Princeton. So bottom line is, it is highly likely that I will decline Vanderbilt. I'm sorry that I can't give a more committed response at the moment but I just thought I'd let people on the waitlist know that it's not completely hopeless; and I will be sure to act as soon as my circumstances become clear in mid-March, instead of dragging this painful process on for everyone.

I will most likely decline UIUC and Queen's in early March. Still waiting to hear from Michigan, Stanford and Cornell, after which I will probably also decline Vanderbilt. The school I'm most likely to be attending is Princeton, Dept. of Politics (I do political philosophy).

Thanks, I'll do that now...

For those who got e-mail rejections from Yale, was it solicited? I haven't received anything either but I'll just have to assume it's a reject, if generic emails are being sent out...

Same thought in my mind when waking up in the middle of the night just to check emails (I'm an international applicant; there's a 12 hour time difference).

Thank you gorki! That sounds reassuring. By the way, have you ever heard of any first years getting a place at an apartment? Thanks again!

Thanks for this thread. I'll be starting at Princeton this fall, and I had question about the guest policy at grad colleges -- my partner will be doing a phd in another city, and we're planning to visit each other at least biweekly. I saw on Princeton's housing website that guests are only allowed to stay for 2 nights at the grad colleges, which could be problematic for us. So my question is - how strict is this policy adhered to? If I live in a single room, for example, is it at all possible to occasionally stretch my partner's stay for an extra day or two? I'd like to apply for an apartment, but from what I've read on this thread, seems that chances are pretty slim for a first year. Thanks for any advice you might have!

Hi, I heard in early Feb, but that may be because they were nominating me to compete for the Jefferson Fellowship, and the Selection takes place very soon (late Feb). The official letter came last week. In any case I've declined, so hopefully that means one of you will hear soon from them. Good luck!

Thank you, and I really hope you get Harvard and/or Yale!!
