  1. Thanks everyone for the congrats! Now I have to work on finding an apartment Oh awesome! Are you from the area or moving there as well?
  2. Also, I received my final rejections last week. So I will be attending North Carolina State University in the fall for Public History!
  3. Today I finally called Amherst so I might find out if I've been accepted into their Public History program. They have already sent out the rejections and acceptances together. However they have some people in the middle that will be finding out at the end of next week when we will either be accepted or rejected. So if you haven't heard from Amherst yet it's because we've been unofficially Waitlisted until next week.
  4. Oh that's awesome!! It's so nice to know that there are other Public Historians doing well in the field! And congrats on the funding! I'm holding out hope that if I hear back from UMass (and even UF) that there will be funding. Oh did a lot go out? I had seen only one earlier. Oh let's hope they don't wait to send out MA news until the PhD candidates respond. Tomorrow would be ideal to find out.
  5. Thank you! It looks like it'll be nice and cool, but not freezing. I'm half tempted to just email them to see if the committee has made any decisions yet.
  6. Yeah I'm visiting this upcoming week so I'm undecided about going. And I know!! I'm just obsessively refreshing the results pages and the application status page for UMass. I just want to know so I can officially make my decision. Hopefully it's good news for both of us!
  7. Hey everyone I have a quick question for anyone accepted into NCSU. Are you going to the conference on the 28th? I'm going back and forth about going, but I need to rsvp soon so I was curious what everyone else is doing. I would love the opportunity to meet some of my (potential) cohorts before fall! Thanks!

  9. hxd536--I hope you hear positive things from the school! Any idea when you might hear? It sounds like you have a really interesting academic background that is a good foundation for public history.
  10. Hi there! So I transfered colleges a bit, but I'm graduating from a large state university. My BA is in history and I have a minor in hospitality management. I've had three internships in the public history field and one job. What's your academic background? Where did you apply?
  11. For NCSU, from my discussion from the director I gathered that they and alumni help graduate students find jobs. Since most of the history centric institutions are run by alumni who are always willing to lend a helping hand. Graduate students who don't have a TA position, will instead work off campus. Hope that helps!
  12. It's always good to have options! I had thought about getting my MA online, but from what I've read and with people I've talked to having the hands on experience you get is really important. Of course there is always the option of working in the field while attending grad school. Even if it's part-time that's my goal for the fall.
  13. I did and I still do at times, but from my research if I ever want a job that isn't mainly entry level I need a MA. I like to look at job postings for fun, I know I'm weird, and a MA is almost always required. Also with a MA I can always teach if I have too. Plus, I really enjoy school so it won't be such an arduous task for me. What about you? Have you thought about just jumping into the field?
