  1. same here, but I had already figured that out since interview requests were sent long time ago. Had already gone through the disappointment.
  2. From what I have been reading , interviews vary a lot depending on the program. Some schools conduct very thorough interviews and will ask you about the concepts and theory which influenced certain pieces, and some are more laid back and want to see if you connect with the faculty... The interview I had with Alfred was more like the second kind. But for Cornell (skype) I was told I should prepare a pdf portfolio and a presentation of my work for the first minutes of the interview, and then they would ask specific questions about my work....which seems very intimidating to me.
  3. but it says that a member of the faculty is traveling so they won't start scheduling interviews until march 7th, so if you didn't get the mail there still is plenty of time.
  4. yup got an email at 15:00
  5. Inteview request from Notre Dame
  6. Thanks, that was a very practical reading! I am not sure about the april 15th deadline, last year (I was waitlisted) someone said certain schools do ask for an early decision, probably a strategy to have the candidates select them haha. And about location, yeah, I know Alfred is not the most urban place to live for 2 years, but oh well, I can still travel to NYC once a month and it will be great forcing myself into concentrating on my work the rest of the time.
  7. Iaaru, I was notified today I was admitted to Alfred (phone call). I have 10 days to decide!!! I am really happy, considering I've heard it's a great program and it is a full ride. I hope you got the call as well. I still haven't heard from half the schools I applied to (I have an interview with Northwestern and Cornell), but Alfred is definitely one of my top choices, so I'll have to seriously think about it. Good luck with your interviews
  8. Since we're not expecting any news today, let's just talk about interviews. This is what I was asked in the only interview I have had so far (Alfred sculpture, second time applying): -Why do you want to come here and how could you contribute to the program? -Tell us about the materials you are working with. -How do you incorporate your audience in your work? -What is risk in sculpture? -What are your passions besides sculpture? -Question related to my statement. I had decided I wouldn't prepare for this interview because I wanted it to be very natural and well...mistake. Honestly I believe it should be somewhere in between. The risk question is obviously meant to take you out of prepared answers, but I thought I could have been a lot clearer if I had prepared the other answers. Anyone has any experience with Northwestern's MFA and their interview?
  9. This forum is definitely not helping me with anxiety How often do you guys refresh this page?
  10. agreed. The first time I applied I was very anxiously checking this forum. It got so bad I decided not to check it everyday this time . I can't really focus on making anything now, I don't feel comfortable completing projects that were already outlined under this pressure. So what I am doing is reading, looking for residencies/exhibition calls and writing. For me, last year's rejections didn't really end in radically wanting to change my work. Instead, I think they gave me the opportunity to understand what I was doing in a much clearer way, and they actually helped me to confirm that I want to continue my life as an artist.
  11. Hello femnottfem. Congrats on your interview! Checked your work and I really liked it. May I ask why you didn't attend Indiana / Cornell last year?
  12. Thanks technotronic, and congrats. You are trying to be kind, but that means we're out if we didn't get the mail. :/
  13. By "scheduling now" do you mean people have been contacted?
  14. Has anyone heard of Tyler sculpture? I know painting interview requests were sent last week, but there is no info on sculpture...
  15. Hey icw, thanks! Well I am Latin American, as you might have noticed, and a sensitive point here is whether Latin American art should be ascribed to Western art traditions or should develop its own references. This is a constant concern in my work and could be considered a cultural reference I guess. I use a pastiche of many high art references and mix them with comical elements, particularly those coming from the confectionery industry.
  16. Hey everybody! I had promised myself I wouldn't be checking the grad cafe because I was going crrrrazy refreshing the freak out forum every 5 minutes last year (this is my 2d round of apps here), but oh well!! Last year was a bummer (rejected from Yale and Hunter ipso facto, waitlisted at Alfred) so I hope this year I get in somewhere! If not, I know what it feels to be rejected....It absolutely sucks, but you eventually get over it and if art is what you reallly want to do, you will simply keep doing it until you nail it! Here's my work www.saramilkes.com applying to sculpture
