  1. Hayden Whites Metahistory is seminal, it's a bit of a behemoth, but i would start there!
  2. Historygradhopeful, With your credentials I'm thinking you're definitely right about the transfer! So much of it is a matter of fit, and if they forwarded your application its obvious that you made an impression to them! The anxiety of whether Columbia or Princeton will reveal tomorrow is killing me. They're possibly the toughest schools I applied to but also two of my absolute best fits ... does anyone know if either of them rejects students from the PhD but offers admission into their masters programs?
  3. erchha, I applied to Notre Dame, Cornell, and Yale for medieval studies, rest were in history with a focus on the medieval period. I applied because I know I'd be a good fit - they all have people working in areas I really want to continue studying - and these had the strongest interdisciplinary focuses that fit my interests, but of course, there are dozens others if not more who are also good fits. If I don't get in I might wait a year to apply to MA programs - so many people have encouraged me to take a year off anyways - we'll see. How about you?
  4. JJWS - same boat, I've been encouraged to go big or go home, and I can't help but feel that's especially true for Medieval History. If I don't get into any of my schools I'm considering also applying to a few more M* programs (I'm still an undergrad) but otherwise probably teach high school for a bit and work on my languages, I've got four besides English but two of them are rather weak and even as a total I've been told it may not be enough - I'll definitely have to pick up at least one or two more in whatever program I get into. EDIT - mvlChicago, that's an encouraging anecdote!!
  5. I posted once for the first time yesterday but thought I'd like to introduce myself too, this is a great thread and seems like a great community to be a part of (also for the record Hyram McDaniels is nowhere near my real name). Chiqui and a.rev - same, just about each of my schools is a reach. So far I've only heard from two schools (which I applied to for medieval studies, not History) for interviews, which is a good sign but also nerve-wracking. Oh, well, also implicitly from Stanford, since I didn't get a call yesterday. I guess we all just have to hang in there, though! Especially since so many decisions trickle in throughout March and potentially April!
  6. I guess Stanford called their admits today. Haven't been contacted - it was kind of a reach, and I messed up several times on my application as well, the deadline was a lot earlier than most of my other schools and I just wasn't very ready. Oh well, here's to waiting for the other schools to get back! Congrats to everyone who got in!
