  1. UC Davis is a fabulous school and its English program is well regarded. I certainly wouldn't hold out, because you never know if you'll get back in next year. It's a big accomplishment to be accepted there at all.
  2. I'm from SC and used to go up to Clemson for football games. I don't know if you've been there but the campus is pretty much heaven on earth.
  3. Accepted at UT Austin. I'm totally disoriented and I think I'm going to have to chug a beer. I am so happy.
  4. I also really wanna know about the UVa notifications! did your FB friend get in?
  5. Congrats, everyone! I hope everybody is thrilled and is going to celebrate tonight!
  6. Waitlisted at Chapel Hill. I almost peed my pants. This is beyond anything I expected to happen. I think I'd do anything to go there!!
  7. Yup, and here starts a period of constant nausea Please, please, please Chapel Hill.
  8. Awesome, congrats! Feel free to PM me if you want any info on KS.
  9. Nope, I'm lit. Good luck on the rhet/comp application. Our program for that is awesome (I'm at KU for an MA right now) and our rhet/comp faculty and students are the nicest in the whole department.
  10. My first reaction was "hell no!" and after thinking about it, I still think no. You could have been rejected because of fit or lack of funding from other schools. And if you got into your top choice, take it, assume you're awesome, drink a beer and pat yourself on the back.
  11. Got accepted to KU's PhD program today w/ a fellowship. I won't be accepting, so hopefully a waitlister will be made happy. (Has anyone applied to KU? I don't see it in anyone's signatures)
  12. Yup. Kinda funny.
  13. Go visit both! And then decide on Davis ;) we could be friends!
  14. I just talked to a friend who has a PhD from Ku, where I'm finishing my master's. She warned me that Davis (the school I'm leaning toward right now) is going to be a lot harder than Ku. What do you guys think of this statement? Should I be scared?
  15. I'm in Texas but I'm pretty sure I just received a Pitt rejection in the mail back home. Grrrr.
  16. Just my two cents, but an MA is useful. You'll become a stronger scholar because of it. In a couple years, you'll be able to get into programs you might not have access to now. You'll have more time to publish, more time to go to conferences, etc., and that's all great to have before you go on the job market.
  17. I had to teach right off the bat in my MA program at KU. I've taught a 2/2 for three years now. It realllllllllly sucked at first but now I'm grateful for the experience. It's made me more confident, and teaching writing skills has honestly helped my writing.
  18. I don't know which program to choose. I'm leaning towards Davis because of its rank, but California is so expensive!!!
  19. Rejected from Emory. Man. This whole thing is really hard.
  20. Well, no one's posted an acceptance to Austin yet, so i think we still have hope.
  21. Ack, I have been checking UVa and UT Austin like a crazy person. There's nothing up on either, but I wonder if they're working through applicants alphabetically. My last name starts with a "P."
  22. This isn't really English, but I got rejected from Michigan's American culture program. I'm trying not to dwell. American Studies is a second choice to English anyway for me.
  23. I wouldn't give up on UC Davis yet. The last couple of years it looks like they accepted people later than this.
  24. I don't see anything yet. I will remain hopeful yet realistic. If I got into UVa it would shake my whole reality. hehe.
