  1. So - got my rejection letter today from IIE. It came in a white business envelope; the return address was IIE. It was postmarked 10 March 2010, and the letter enclosed was dated the same. Mostly just really disappointed (I mean, spending a year in Prague doing my research would have been truly amazing), but also very relieved that this whole process has some closure. I would seriously be going out of my mind if I were selected as an alternate (sorry, alternates ...). Best of luck to everyone! This forum has been a really excellent resources, and Sally, the spreadsheet is great. Hopefully next year's applicants (of which I hope to make another showing!) will find it equally helping/assuring
  2. Congratulations to you!! This is wonderful news. If I may be so bold, whereabouts in the country are you located?
  3. My advisor didn't say anything of this sort, though he told me that campus advisors don't find out anything after the finalist round; id est, if one is a grant recipient, the campus advisor isn't alerted. Did your advisor explain why telling people is a bad idea? (Outside of the invariable "well, I was a finalist but I didn't make it/I'm an alternate/whatever" type situation). At any rate, good luck to you and your purely hypothetical Fulbright status
  4. Accordian? Way jealous; I've wanted to learn to play for a while. Totally OT from Fulbright anxiety, but do you have previous musical experience? What are your thoughts on learning accordian? (I am a fellow nerd). Also: oatmeal stout - delish. And I'm psyched for cycling season coming up; I have an old single speed I like rambling around on.
  5. Good luck to EVERYONE still waiting for word ... I just spent about ten minutes bawling my eyes out
  6. Finalist for the Czech Republic ... we'll see!
  7. I haven't heard anything from anyone directly. Twitter lit up with a few "I'M A FINALIST!" messages, but those seem to be from people who were informed by their advisor, rather than an official IIE email (given the very very small number of messages (3ish?) seems likely). Other #fulbright messages seem primarily concerned with today being the finalist announcements. That said, another student who applied from my home institution (Indiana) told me that she spoke with our advisor and we'd be hearing by the end of the day from IIE. Take that for what it's worth, I suppose.
  8. You may not have to wait any longer (well, at least past today). I just heard from a friend (who's applying to Finland) that IIE will be contacting us by the end of the day.
  9. I just registered here so I could see what the 2010-11 Fulbright applicants were saying. I applied for a research grant to the Czech Republic; I study Czech (and Polish and Yiddish) in graduate school and also rare books and manuscripts (joint MA/MLS program) ... My proposed research is affiliated with a rare book/manuscript repository there, to work on an English language bibliography. Exciting stuff, but I'm terrified and just about going out of my mind with anxiety.
