  1. Fun story: I met Zadie Smith one time at Purdue. She was getting hit on by some old man who seemed to have no idea what a big deal she is. I came up and shook her hand and told her what an honor it was to be in her presence. The old man asked if she was a model. XD Also, I got my first acceptance today!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I'm applying straight out of undergrad. I'm getting an English Ed degree from Purdue, and then post-MFA (if it happens) I'd like to teach high school and write in my free time. Eventually I'd seek a professorship.
  3. Ugh. Rejected from Florida Atlantic University. I know there's no such thing as a safe school when it comes to MFAs, but if I had one, I thought it was FAU. So now I'm even more nervous than before. I say again: ugh.
  4. Hi Lagoon91, don't freak out yet! It's a big program and calling every person probably takes some time. Mind you, this is coming from a freaking out person because according to the survey someone got accepted at FAU (among my top choices) and I have heard zilch. I saw someone got accepted at Vanderbilt. I really doubt I got accepted there, and I thought I'd be jealous to see someone get in, but actually I'm pretty happy for them. I'm pretty sure it's the first ever acceptance posted on the survey so... dayum.
  5. If someone feels the urge to post a couple screen shots of the Facebook draft, feel free. Fingers crossed.
  6. Traveler- Not according to the gradcafe list, which I assume you know about: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=Creative+writing&t=a&o=&pp=100
  7. In case anyone besides me is interested, according the FAU English office, all rejection/acceptance letters for fiction will (probably) all be mailed by Wednesday, Feb. the 11th. Eeek!
  8. Thanks for the encouragement, Samson, and thanks for the information. Also, thanks for correcting me in terms of prestigious universities. If I don't get accepted anywhere this round I'll consider it next round. I'm fiction, so I'm going to hope one poetry acceptance isn't something for me to freak out about. But. What was the date on that acceptance, if you happen to remember? I'm a weirdo who doesn't use Facebook anymore.
  9. Hello, everyone! May I join in your freak-outs? A little about me: I'm a Senior in English Ed waiting to hear back from the 5 MFA programs I applied to. Even though I'm pretty confident in my writing, I'm nervous that I won't be accepted because I'm applying straight from my undergrad to grad school. Does anyone have any experience with this? I mostly applied to small programs because I really want that community feel from my MFA program. I've heard that bigger, more prestigious universities can be very competitive, and this does not sound appealing to me. Am I crazy for only applying to 5? (Well, 4, if we're being serious. Vanderbilt? lolz.) Vanderbilt (because why not.) U Colorado (because Boulder.) U Oregon (because Eugene.) U Miami (small, diverse, pretty excellent funding if they offer it.) Florida Atlantic University (small, pretty setting, respectable faculty.) I have heard next to nothing in the forums about U Miami and FAU, and I think I'm actually the most excited and hopeful about these 2, so if anyone has any tidbits of info at all, I owe you my first born son.
