  1. I don't think there are such things. Since every IO program has more applicants than slots, they need a standardized bar by which to measure students. Since a GPA is not even 100% relative within the same institution, let alone different institutions. You may find some online Masters programs that don't require the GRE. You need programs specifically for professionals going back to school. Even then they might be rare, my school has a online masters for professionals but I just checked and even it requires the GRE. I would venture a guess that if you can find a program without the GRE, it's not a program you want to go to. I know University of Phoenix has a PhD in IO that I bet doesn't need a GRE, but thats an online doctorate from UOP so.... .. . EDIT: UoP used to have an IO PhD, looks like they got rid of it and only have a masters now. http://www.siop.org/reportsandminutes/CommitteeReports/Jan10/online_industrial.pdf EDIT2: It looks like Capella has an Online IO PhD that requires no GRE http://www.capella.edu/online-degrees/phd-industrial-organizational-psychology/admission-requirements/ EDIT3: Just looking at the SIOP database Capella, Grand Canyon University, Keiser University, and NorthCentral University don't require GRE. I think they are all online type schools. http://www.siop.org/gtp/GtpLookup.asp
  2. Whatever you are talking about sounds like a great story! Since I'm spending Spring Break refreshing my e-mail, please someone find more info on this.
  3. Not because of the team itself, but because of the institutions commitment to academics. This is the same reason I'd avoid a "party school". When I was researching I read a few personal stories and some editorials stating that Auburn's administration have made choices that hurt academics in favor of football. I have no idea how honest those editorials were, but just as schools need an excuse to whittle down the list of applicants, I needed criteria to whittle down the list of schools. So I chose things like perceived dedication to academics, crime rates, cost of living per square foot, an other things that don't necessarily have a bearing on the program itself. EDIT: I tracked down one of the articles. I admit I am ignorant of whether this is a significant finding. I know such things were common, and maybe they still are. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/14/sports/ncaafootball/14auburn.html?pagewanted=all http://www.wsfa.com/story/1557500/auburn-university-placed-on-probation With regards to the probation, there were one or two schools I took off the list over financial concerns, for similar reasons that accreditation concerns me. The University system in my home state of Nevada technically went bankrupt a few years back. I had to transfer to CSU last minute because UNLV doesn't offer a third of their PSY UD classes. They don't even offer 300 or 400 level statistics! So I am acutely aware that things can go wrong at a school. It's unlikely that you can get into a program and have the program collapse around you but I believe in preparing for the worst. EDIT2: Those articles are valid but the more I research Auburn now, since I have nothing better to do, the more I don't think its the school I'm thinking of. Is there another school in Alabama that has or had an IO Program? I recall a school I contacted told me that they had stopped their IO program, I wonder if thats the school I'm thinking of.
  4. Hmmm I don't recall the that, I didn't know they would publish that. I'll go find that now. I'm bored.
  5. Who got in UMSL off the short list yesterday?
  6. I appreciate the info. I recall looking at Auburn early on and not "feeling" it. I would like to go to school in Alabama but after all the energy expended for such a bad football team at my current school, I was scared to go to a school where football is so much more important. As faulty as I know such a judgement is, I feel like your story may be evidence that I was right. Though looking at the website now I might be confusing them with another school. Auburn is the only Alabama school on my spreadsheet, but their website seems newer than I remember. It was probably 3 years ago that I first looked them up.
  7. I didn't apply there, but so I know for next cycle, what was missing? Was it something you omitted since they told you it was complete, or did you submit it but they didn't get it. Honestly that is pretty messed up either way. For me, programs were kind enough to let me know something was missing since it was obvious I had tried to turn everything in.
  8. Great News! It also answers one of my questions. I know Spring break for students is not spring break for professors, but I wasn't sure if we would see any movement on applications this week. Even though it seems like an ideal time, I was also under the impression that there are no visits/interviews this week though it seems the best time to me.
  9. Depends on what you mean. When did I hear about their short list? I heard about that on Feb 13th. I went to their visit day on March 8th. I haven't heard anything meaningful since then. I'm still hoping to get an offer from them. I have heard nothing from Akron. I contacted my POI, but he told me that he was on sabbatical so he wasn't part of the process. I wish he had told me that last semester when I contacted him. I still would have contacted him as his research is the basis of my intended research, but I would have reached out to a second POI. At this point I'm 90% sure if I don't get into a PhD offer that I will wait till next season.
  10. USF and Penn State emailed me.
  11. I know it may seem nuts but I wish I was on that many waitlists. I've only been notified of one waitlist, most of the schools have gotten official rejections in by now. I think USF actually sent me 3 separate rejections , I don't know if that means there is some clerical problems or they rejected me so hard they want to make sure I never apply again. BTW, the Penn State rejection was sort of weird. It's like being placed insanely deep on the waiting list. It mentions that the April Shuffle could make an offer possible but very unlikely. The only nice thing about it, is that it's super short and almost seems like it isn't generic. I hate the rejections where it takes me more than 10 seconds to locate the rejection sentence. I second what StartWithTheEndInMind said, with that many waitlists it's reasonable to assume you will get in once the top applicants start releasing offers during the April Shuffle. I'd be much less unsure if I was in your shoes. 축하해유
  12. I have no idea. I know someone earlier mentioned doing this earlier and seeing that they were accepted when they poked around the schools management system. Do you see that anywhere? When you generate an application many schools put you in the system as part of the process. I think it may just be part of the process from a technical standpoint. I imagine it's that case for almost everyone, so I wouldn't read into it either way.
  13. You know they say that when you assume you make an Ass out of YoU and Me. I have been told time and again that at this stage, no news is good news. It's not great news, it means you aren't part of the initial offers, but if you had been rejected you would likely know already. It means that we are on the hook for the April Shuffle when all the top choices who got into several programs start releasing offers.
  14. Semi-selfish plug, but if one of them is UMSL then please do wait or decline. In all reality, I'm with you on that difficult decision. I'm not in as fortunate a boat as you yet, I'm in the position of deciding between Master's and trying to petition for PhD or waiting another cycle. For you, whether or not the fit is good if you don't feel there is a fit then it may not go well. What are you basing your lack of fit assumptions on? I am curious if they are things that are concrete or malleable.
  15. Yea IIT gave me a masters offer instead of PhD, but I guess their PhD is not funded so its the same. At GMU if you opt in you can be considered for maters after being denied PhD. I'll only go that route if I don't get into a funded PhD elsewhere. Unless there were some guarantee that you can move to PhD if you do well enough, otherwise it seems to risky to me.
  16. You guys declining and accepting offers already are bad ass! I wish I was you! Well I fly to STL in 14.5 hours for the UMSL Visit Day, pray for me guys. I'm surprisingly unstressed about all this, just not digging the unknown.
  17. Ooh getting in nice and late I see. I land at 4PM. I don't travel much so I made an excuse to spend a little extra on everything. I'm staying at the Hilton Garden super close to campus. Nothing I found was particularly affordable so I figured I'd stick close to campus. I agree our applications are likely very close in the stacks. BTW, who did you get a call from at IIT. I think I got a call from Roya Ayman, she had a strong accent. I'm curious if I got a call from her because she doesn't cross-cultural research and my letter happened to mention that as well, or is it because she is the program director. I knew my quant score would not bode well, and I understand. For me I simply am a little slow at math, not bad just slow. In Stats class my fellow students are picking up connections that take me a minute longer, but once I get it I get it. This doesn't bode well for the GRE but if I had to take it again, and I didn't fixate on doing it in order, i think I may do better. But with the IIT acceptance, I don't think I'd be willing to go another cycle, plus I am optimistic about UMSL. I'd prefer a fully funded program, partly because I really want a new car It's silly but being the first in my family to get a Bachelors, if I get into a PhD program too I've earned a car damnit .
  18. Overall GPA:3.685Psychology GPA: 4.0 Junior/Senior GPA: 3.758 GRE Scores: * Verbal: 163/170 (92% percentile). * Math: 147/170 (28% percentile). * Writing: 4.0/6.0 (56% percentile) I got the same call you did about the IIT Masters "proposition". Ditto on the UMSL short list, are you going to the visit Friday? I am quite grateful to IIT for the offer, I wish more programs automatically considered it. But since IIT is an unfunded PhD I guess their masters is less of a trade off. GMU has a part of their application that lets you request consideration for the Masters program if rejected from the PhD. Though I don't know if there is a path to the PhD from Masters at GMU.
  19. My University of Minnesota application now says "Decision Made", though I haven't heard anything yet. I also got a call from a professor at IIT, I guess they are accepting me into the MS in Personnel and Human Resources Development instead of the PhD because my GRE Quant score was too low. It's a non-thesis MS though research is allowed, and I can apply for PhD after a year. I'm still hoping for a funded PhD but this isn't bad. My real world math performance is fine so I'm confident I could move into the PhD program. The question is, if I go into an unfunded program can I buy myself a new car as a gift or not? My car is a the 10 year mark and I'm tired of blowing a fuse every time I try to charge a laptop because of the crazy thing wiring in my car.
  20. From what I was told they probably had to go out of their way to get those experiences, the faculty didn't help. But grad students are weird. At NIU my POI said they were a practitioner program with less research needed than some programs, but the grad student she put me in touch with said the exact opposite. If I don't make it this cycle, I will have to research more to figure out the truth of it.
  21. A grad student at my school put me in touch with a current VT grad student. It seems like a great program if you want to be an academic but he warned how bad it would be if you have a desire to consult. He also mentioned his brain was jello from random sleeping hours and 5-hour Energy, but I assume that's all programs. I wanted to apply there but I need consulting experience. Me too!
  22. On the part of the site to submit results there is mention of one interview and one wait list for Penn State. I haven't heard from them though.
  23. Oh Okay. I see I misread your post, I thought you got accepted to BGSU but you were congratulating someone else.
