  1. Thanks for the update Lily. I didn't apply to any SUNYs but it's good to know. Did you accept BGSU?
  2. I appreciate the ease of an online application, but I wish they would use them on the decisions end to. I see people saying they are finding their decisions online, but even schools I have been rejected from only show the application fee paid as the last interaction. The only outstanding application with anything is University of Minnesota, which says Final Review.
  3. Yea I got that letter from George Mason. It was kind of annoying how the first part was a re-rejection. I almost didn't finish reading it. I got a snail mail rejection from Kansas State University on fancy 25% Royal Cotton paper, or I think that's what the fancy hidden watermark said. I'm not big on the environment but I was annoyed by the wast of paper. It's even worse that it's fancy paper, like a consolation prize for the money I paid on the application.
  4. Darn acronyms, Central Michigan.
  5. There are some updates on the site for CMU and NYU, looks like someone got their CSU reject today so I guess not all of them went out Friday.
  6. That's because you're Mr. Awesome February Two Acceptances. A connection is great! I honestly expected to see some views on my LinkedIn throughout this process. It's not a traditional measure but it seems that it would be useful to look at, but I guess anythign that is not ubiquitous and required could make the process unfair. I put a lot of work into my profile so it'd be nice to be looked at
  7. Yea I'm expected this thread to blow up in March. One thing I'm wondering, can paid members of LinkedIn view profiles without being logged? I'm surprised that I haven't gotten any LinkedIn reviews through this process. Has anyone caught a member of a program checking their LinkedIn?
  8. As a UMSL shortlister, I appreciate your taking another offer . As a side note, are there any persons of color applying to UMSL? My terrible geography and interest in the news meant I had no idea how close UMSL was to Ferguson. I saw some reviews online claiming the school is racist. I am not particularly worried about it as I have rarely elicited racist reactions, in fact I have a few friends who were quite racist before meeting me. Even if there is racism it wouldn't affect my decision to attend, in fact it might make me more likely to pick it. I simply wonder if that factors into anyone else's decision.
  9. I already got my ticket, I'm going for sure.
  10. I know you weren't asking me, but I was contacted via email for UMSL to be told I was on the short list. ecronu, my short list email mentioned an Open House/Visit Day, are you going to that?
  11. Just got my Colorado State University rejection a few hours ago. I knew that one was coming though, they don't take their own undergrads but I applied anyway.
  12. I'm glad to hear that this cycle is working out well for you. I did the same thing on the advice of my MUGGSS mentor. CSU has a program for I/O majors, Mentoring UnderGrads to Graduate School Success, where we are paired with a IOP grad student who helps us with various aspects of the application process. As a first generation student it was incredibly helpful as I had no idea what to do, though I picked up much of it on my own via neoacademic. I tailored part of my SOP to most of the schools in October or November like you, though some schools were added to the list last minute so I didn't do that. Also, this cycle I found it very hard to find professors I could really cater to. Your posts make me confident that I did all I could. If I am unlucky this cycle I'll take the GRE again, this time remembering to do the stuff I know first. I never got to the statistics part, the part I know I can do. I'll also try to find more schools with professors doing cross-cultural research, so far I only found one. Are any of your acceptances from past rejects?
  13. Below is the spreadsheet I made. You will see that I spent an insane amount of time making it. The APA book was particularly difficult to sift through to find the info. What I didn't do was go through the school sites to get info, that proved too difficult. I agree about GMU, I applied because of reputation, the city and how the school has Korean classes. Sounds like we did the same things, I did go to the sites and make a lot of bookmarks. For some reason I must have overlooked Oklahoma. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AovmJvJBVDlvdFI1Y3E5T0ItLTUwQ25mbFZrVnhkNEE&usp=sharing
  14. For those of you who got into schools already and are unlikely to need to apply again, what made you choose the schools you did. I created a spreadsheet with data from USNews, the APA grad school book and SIOP to map out everything I could about all the possible schools. It took forever! But there are programs you have applied to that I don't remember hearing about. Particularly I never considered Oklahoma and I have no idea why. It's in my spreadsheet and according to the APA data it's a program that receives only around 50 apps and they have decent stipends, full tuition remission, and I have no idea how they didn't end up on my list.
  15. I was sort of surprised that I got a straight rejection from U of Tulsa. Admittedly I'm unsure how competitive their pool is but even my professors were surprised when I told them I was rejected from Tulsa. I suspect my immediate rejections are from schools that are just too good for me or ones that hold GRE at/above all else. I know, from interviews, that the rest of my app is really strong. Those of you concerned about not hearing back, don't fret yet. Honestly I have no idea how this all works but I suspect that some programs are all over the place, perhaps trying to snag top applicants first before solidifying short/waitlists. P.S. Now I think about it, my interests are sort of specific so maybe some of my rejects were fit related. I suspect some programs I called out as research or practice focused were wrong. One school I interviewed for, the professor said they were practitioner based but the grad student I was put in touch with said they were heavy research so with that confusion I'm sure some of my letters were wrong.
  16. I heard from UMSL about the short list on Friday.
  17. Yes I am planning on going. I just need to figure out if I am flying there or roadtripping. I have a car purchase on my mind so I'm considering roadtripping so I can rent a vehicle as a test drive.
  18. Congratulations to all who have gotten acceptances. I messed up the GRE pretty badly (low Q High V) so I'm praying for an acceptance but I am quite scared since I know that IOP is incredibly competitive. I got one wait list from one school and about 6 rejections so far. I applied to more than most of you it seems partly because my getting in is not a sure thing because of the GRE. The rest of my app is good or strong, the one thing is that I transferred to Colorado State because it's better than my home school UNLV, but this meant I had to waste a fair bit of time retaking some courses and I simply don't have the amount or depth of research that I'd like that I'm sure many of you have. I am still a good candidate I think so I haven't given up hope.
