  1. sorry, have to agree with piglet. I opened this bc it says perspective instead of prospective. but yeah, try to get experience in the field between your studies. your gpa is average so you're going to need to beef up your resume as much as possible.
  2. they're both fantastic schools. but if you intend to live in California in the future, you might as well get your training and license here too. Columbia has a beautiful campus and I'd recommend actually living in NY and doing your field work there if you choose it, although you said it's not feasible for you right now. with what you've said, it sounds like USC is where you should be. good luck!
  3. @happiness - thanks so much yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to Dominguez Hills. I think it's going to be a great fit for me. & good luck with LB. sending good thoughts to everyone. I'm ready for this whole thing to be over so we can all just get to working and learning. this stress these past few months has been far from enjoyable.
  4. I got my pending email this morning. I'm pretty sure I was one of the last apps because I sent it on the last day. not sure if I even care at this point, but I know others are interested in the general process, so I thought I'd share. good luck guys
  5. @saidy I applied for mental health, but I changed to child welfare so I can apply for the CalSWEC stipend. I didn't know they were still accepting applications, but I guess since the acceptances came so late, not too many people applied.
  6. I got my acceptance to CSUDH on May 11. I applied at the end of January. They gave me a week to respond. I accepted and I'm about 90% sure I'm going here. I accepted at CSUF as well because of time-constraints, but I'm ready for a change of pace (I grew up down the street). Congrats to my fellow Toros
  7. Dang, I got that same email February 24th. Guess I'm out :/
  8. kurkz- sounds like you need an escape real bad with so many negative remarks about where you're from! USC is going to be a great place for you. having lived in LA my entire life, I just don't see the appeal. I could point out 50 negative things, but that won't change the place. It'll just make it worse in my mind. I've wanted to live in NY since I was 13, so I guess I'm jumping at the thought of crossing that off my bucket list. you never know, I may end up as one of those crazy people who love it there seems to be a bunch of those around. plus my best friend is going with me, so it's definitely going to be an adventure. different strokes for different folks, as they say. good luck to you
  9. is anyone moving to NY from the west coast for their MSW? if so, can you tell me your reasoning and how you feel about the move? thanks
  10. MSWHopefulCT, Have you decided between USC and NYU? or are you waiting for another school? I'm so torn whether or not to move to the east coast (I love about 30 mins away from USC as it stands). Both are great, I don't know how I'm supposed to decide!
  11. alex bo balex, I sent my transcripts well before I finished my application. I had originally sent them to that wrong address they had on the MSW FAQ, and they were returned to me as 'non-deliverable." this gave me ample time to figure out what went wrong and re-submit to the other address. I have no knowledge about not sending your transcripts before sending the application. I did that and all was well. so that information seems false (that person also sounded like they were having a bad day; nothing for you to take personally). if you do see these as signs for you not to continue on, fair enough. but don't talk yourself out of it unless you're sure. sometimes the effort is worth it good luck!!
  12. yep, I'm the same as sunnyskies. I received my admission to the university email a couple days ago and then today, I received admission from the department. they stated that they don't need to interview me, but if I'd like to meet with the department chair, I can make an appointment. orientation isn't until August. good luck to those still waiting
  13. Caz- I was accepted to the full time program
  14. so sunnyskies, does it mean we're in and their timing is just off?
  15. well technically, if it lets us accept admission and pay our deposit online and it specifies the department we've been accepted into, they can't really decline us after that. that would be an error on their part, and they'd have to accommodate us. pretty sure that'd be a very straightforward petition if something went wrong.
  16. the only thing you'd lose out on is the deposit to whichever school you don't end up going to (if it has one). I accepted one school and paid the deposit, but now I've been accepted to another. so I may just forfeit the deposit, and go with the other school. they can't really fault you. you won't be penalized. you don't owe them an explanation if you withdraw your name, either. you have the right to do what's best for you.
  17. oh, I just checked. I got the same email on my fullerton email as well.
  18. Caz - thank you! you guys are so sweet. & I got it on my personal email. they said from now on they'll be contacting me on my CSUF email though.
  19. yeah, at this point, it's between USC and CSUF. I work close to fullerton, so I might stay local to keep some steady income in my bank account. If I don't get into LB, I'll probably end up going with fullerton based on the price point and the credit hours towards licensure.
  20. sure. graduated with a 3.9 gpa from a UC with a degree in psychology. I've volunteered at an elementary school since 2007, I was in a psych research lab for 2 years , I was in a national honors society & did a lot of volunteer work. and I took a year off to save up some money, so I'm working in retail right now (and I've moved up in the company within a year). I'm really not too impressive in my specs, so keep those spirits up.
  21. thanks Tonk yeah, from what you all were saying, I was sincerely expecting a letter or an email with an interview date. I have no idea what kind of system they have going as of lately. perhaps the definite yeses get in right away, the maybes get an interview, and so on? this is all speculation at this point. regardless, good luck guys. (Also, if anyone gets in and wants/needs a roommate in the fullerton or surrounding areas, I'm definitely interested. hmu!)
  22. also, there was absolutely no mention of an interview in my email. just figured you all would want to know
  23. emails are rolling out guys I was accepted this morning. congrats to everyone else who hears back as well!
  24. all the financial aid info is basically the same. so you have whatever you got for the scholarship, 20k federal loans, and you can get a graduate PLUS loan for the total cost of attendance for the year. that's what people usually use to live off of. I got work study from another school, but I already have a job so I would reject that. that's about all we get in grad school.
