I also heard that it's usually optional to list if you've already have other master's degrees when you apply for a master? You might want to double check. But getting a master for free in a few weeks along with all the teaching experience on your resume might be a safe thing. You can be flexible as to when to go for a second one, while use the current one to your advantage whereas you see fit (teaching stint, etc)

Thanks so much for the info! -
I think you should really speak with Yale directly and honestly let them know the situation and let them know your you're the one paying for the tuition. It can only help at this moment.

Artist-Are you shocked by who offered an acceptance & a rejection?
hooraypublic replied to NYTreader's topic in Visual
Haha ok that was sort of a joke. I wasn't really shocked because most of the programs that I really felt good about and think are good fits all accepted me. And I also see why some programs turn me down. With that said, I do find some programs silent rejections, or another one's suggestion in the rejection letter that "I consider reapplying next year", a bit funny. -

Thanks Marchy! To be precise, I'm not in UCLA's art department, but its neighboring design media arts, which focused more on the media and technology sides of contemporary art. I love their faculty and there are quite a few successful alums in the past. However I share the same concern with you that I don't want to limit my work to media- or technology-based. I'm looking for ways to sneak into the art department somehow... (anyone here in the forum going there? ) In terms of cmu, I think they have a strong emphasis on performance and social practice, judging from recent student work. So maybe you can easily find you niche there, while taking the advantage of it being interdisciplinary. For me it's their strength on new media that draws me there with Golan Levin as faculty. -

I came across Shana Moulton who's from CMU and seems to be doing pretty well. Maybe you could look her up. I thing she's on art21 or something. Other than that I'm still researching. In my impression a few of the alums have successfully landed full time teaching jobs, if that's something you're into. -

If you are excited about CMU, and it offers good funding, then personally I think it might be a better deal to go than to wait another year and go through all this again not knowing if you can get in. Depends on what medium(s) you work with, CMU could be a amazing program. But of course this is a personal choice and depends on how much you like the school. I've heard a lot of good things about Pittsburg as well, which is great, but I would weight the fit of the program much higher than location. I would rather going to a school in the woods if I feel really connected and excited about the faculty and current students rather than going to a school in an exciting city while feeling the opposite when you're in the crit room. Have you look at some students' and alums' websites? For me I'm leaning towards UCLA right now, simply because I know it is a better fit for me after looking at the faculty and student work. -

Hey Marchy, you have some great options to choose from! I'm just curious why are you still thinking about reapplying? If that's something you could share... -

That place is great! Initially I thought I wouldn't really consider going there because of financial situation, but I really love the place now. I don't know what program you're applying to, and I am Art and Tech which has different studio space within the main building, but I did tour the art studios and they were great and feel like a small community in a corner of the campus with an outdoor BBQ space as they call it. The whole school of art share some facilities used by four departments such as the super shop, which has abundant equipments for fabrication and sculpture work, and the mac lab and video lab, which I find a bit lacking if you want to do any high-demand graphics work because they don't have mac pro but used iMac instead. There seems to be ample opportunities to work with students and faculty from other schools or departments if you're interested and seek them out. -

Hey Marchy, hope the result still come out well for you! I didn't apply to Bard but am curious to know more about the "cult like intro day" if you care to share a bit more details -

From what I've heard about SAIC, you'll know if you're selected for the only one or two merit tuition scholarship for each department from the acceptance letter. If the letter doesn't mention anything about scholarship, then it means the money is going to someone else... The financial information that goes out latter will probably be only loans or some other school-wide scholarship. I might have misinterpret what they told me though. -
