  1. Call every applicant every single night and tell them where they stand and where the process stands.
  2. I suppose. I'm 11 years detached from my undergrad work and 5 years from Master's. I completed my Master's in one year by taking 7 classes per semester. I did this while working full time. I basically dedicated my life to law enforcement and just decided to majorly switch directions. I know that I'll acclimate, it's just a matter of starting over again at 37 years old... ugh.
  3. That's why I feel so behind. I have no papers. I have no publications or research experience. I am entering a totally foreign world, and while this doesn't scare or intimidate me, it certainly makes me feel as though I am starting out in a hugely disadvantaged position.
  4. I know that I posted this in another thread that I created, but the answer is very important to me, so forgive me if I am "spamming." I was accepted to the U of South Carolina on Thursday, but there was no word on funding and the program director has not replied to my email. Now, I see under the results page that someone else was accepted on Friday with funding. The USC is my top choice school and my wife and I have already began looking at houses down there. If I don't get funding, I don't get to go. If you are the person who got the funding, how did you find out? My acceptance email seems pretty generic and does not mention it anywhere. Also, if you are NOT the person, do you have any advice for me? DO they sometimes offer funding AFTER your first year? I simply can't swing $28,000/year. This would crush me if it is the only thing holding me back. Also, while I am asking, how long does a Ph.D. program typically take? One of the programs I was accepted to is forecasting just under 2 years because I completed my Master's there. However, I've also seen schools that state up to 6 years! That's $180,000 in tuition!! That HAS to include Master's level work for those who have not yet attained that degree, right?
  5. Somebody posted in the results that they were accepted here for PHD in crim with funding. If this is you, how were you notified about the funding aspect? Thanks
  6. Thank you for the more constructive advice. You're right. I was venting and you cooled me down. Thanks.
  7. Clean up some of your multiple negatives and I'll know what you're trying to say. Not you... Gemini.
  8. I'm so sick of being kept in this endless loop. Is there ever a point that you tell a program to go screw themselves? At some point, it turns from them looking for candidates to them dangling the rest of us. It's as if we're the ugly 2nd girlfriend waiting for acceptance. I'm sick of it and getting mad.
  9. Do you have to be invited to attend a conference? Why and when are you asked to present? I am solo far behind on knowing this stuff. I'm getting very discouraged. I've been accepted to two Ph.D. programs and I feel like an infant trying to walk.
  10. Yes... rejected from Penn State. I sent an email asking about my status and go not response, then got an auto-gnerated email. Heard today from University of South Carolina... ACCEPTED!! 1st choice. Unknown funding.
  11. Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of turning down any schools. I have to take what I can get.
  12. Spoke to them on the phone. I was told everyone would hear by the end of this week.
  13. I got into the U of Massachusetts. Funding announcing mid March.
  14. How about U Florida? South Carolina anyone?
  15. Penn State - rejected Cincinnati - rejected Temple -rejected Still waiting on top 2 choices. I literally cried yesterday.
  16. You should get a notice. It goes something like this: You're sitting at home playing with your dogs (or XBOX or checking email.... you get the gist). The doorbell rings (doorbell is a metaphor for the *ding* you hear on your phone as an email notification). You open the door (email). The carrier is there with a certified letter that you have to sign for (you open the the email). You sign and are handed a letter which you open (you click on the link in the email). The carrier immediately kicks you forcefully in the balls (the school website tells you that you suck and don't even think about setting foot on their campus). Notification complete.
  17. I really feel that application fess should be refundable if acceptance is not offered. I basically paid close to $800 for NOTHING
  18. It almost feels like you're shi++ing on me for applying to 10 schools. Look at the results page. There are people applying to 20+
  19. That's another thing that is killing me. I found this website 2 weeks ago (months after apps were sent in) and had no idea what a POI was. Was I supposed to have one?? Just some background: I was a cop for 8 years. Before that, I was a middle school teacher. I know that I'm smart enough to earn my Ph.D., but I had no experience in the world of academia. I guess I should count myself lucky for the one acceptance I got??
  20. I honestly can't take this anymore. This is my first time ever going through this process. I thought it would be quick and I also thought that I was a "shoe in!" Thankfully my first response was an acceptance, so I have SOMEWHERE to go, but honestly, I would never do this again. At this point, I just want acceptance from more than 1 of the 10 schools I applied to so that I know that I am really "good enough." This sucks.
  21. Yeah... I know the spelling was terrible.
  22. I spoke to Dr. Cioabaneu and was told applications are still being reviewed.
  23. Called the University of Cincinnati... they've been through 2 rounds of acceptances. I'm perplexed. I have very high GPA's, high 90th percentile GRE's...
  24. I see what you're saying, but that's still only 1 page of 2015 acceptances. Plus, my 2 top choices aren't even represented in 2015. It appears that 1 of my schools sent acceptances on Feb 26/27 of last year.
  25. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
