  1. I actually was offered a bursary at the Universitie Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia! Tiny rural francophone town of Church Point (Pointe d'Eglise). Especially because I'm seriously considering a BSW in a bilingual province (NB) I feel like it would be very beneficial. But I'd also lose five weeks of work. Yes- it's not over till I get the rejection letter, luckily!
  2. Blegh. 5 PM, end of the business day, and end of the business week. Three-four day weekend (I have no idea, do people get Easter Monday off in the real world? It's now "exam season" so I don't have to do anything but like..?) to sit around and hope for U of T / Laurier. Going to focus on family / relaxing / trying to finish my last few things for my undergrad. And going to start trying to decide between Lakehead & St. Thomas. Oh, and figure out if I can pull off Explore this summer (I feel like a total French immersion program would be good heading into a bilingual province if I pick St. Thomas, does anyone have experience with the program??). Still, it's gonna be a LONG weekend.
  3. There's a whole board for social work programs! It's hidden under "professional degrees". They've got a lot of information about various American schools so you may have better luck looking there!
  4. For those on the Lakehead waiting lists - got my official offer of acceptance today and I have until the 24th of April to accept it. It says if I don't accept, my spot will be allocated to candidates from the "active applicant pool" (waitlist) on April 30th! So, still a bit of time but it seems like a firm date for you guys to wait for! Best of luck!! (Also, if anyone did the 1 year HBSW at Lakehead, either campus but preferably Tbay, and wants to talk to me about the program, please shoot me a message! Would love to hear all about it.)
  5. I think there is definitely going to be some movement for Thunder Bay. Whether it's enough movement to get you in is always a concern though. But there's definitely at least one person on this thread (I want to say @dexy77?) who got into Thunder Bay AND an MSW (Laurier??). I think a lot of people choose the HBSW as a back up, so you honestly never know! And really, I think I've seen maybe three of us on this forum who got into Lakehead Thunder Bay, when there are 25 people who got accepted. So you never know what'll happen outside of this site. It's so stressful for sure, I really hope you get the good news you're hoping for! Keep us updated!
  6. Hey! I don't know for sure how many people are on the waitlist. I do know the program only has 25 spots, but I think a lot of us applied to it and masters programs / other pd-BSWs. So, basically hope other people get into their masters and turn it down. I got into another program that I'm seriously considering, but need more information to make the choice. I can tell you I have to accept by April 24th so I imagine around then is when there will be some movement. I don't know from last year but you can look back through the forums to see if there was much movement. So, no need to despair just yet! edit: haha, sorry, just realized I replied to you twice in two different forums basically saying the exact same thing. Can you tell this crazy waiting is frying my brain?? Hopefully someone else will have more insight!
  7. I would say more than plausible. It's not over till you have the letter either way! Good luck!!
  8. Congrats to everyone on their acceptances today!! I just got an email from Angela at U of T confirming they had received my updated transcript - so I still have hope that some more of us may yet hear before mid-April. It seems to be taking them about a week between rounds, so we still have (I'm gonna wildly speculate) two more sets of offers going out - I hope! Good luck to everyone still waiting!!
  9. For those who applied to St. Thomas - results are out on the connectstu portal! Congrats to anyone who got in.
  10. I totally meant to tell everyone a few hours ago when I noticed! Congrats everyone!
  11. Congrats anyways about Laurier! Does anyone else have an email yet? I don't have anything but I'm sure it'll take them a while to get to everyone.
  12. That's amazing!! Congrats! I don't see why they would give you an award if they didn't accept you... but I don't know anything about the OGS. Still, great accomplishment.
  13. For St. Thomas's post-degree BSW: I emailed St. Thomas just to inquire about a timeline for admissions decisions as they said in my phone interview we would hopefully hear by the "end of March". I emailed Becky the Administrative Coordinator because she's who I had been in contact with about other things (interviews). "Admissions will be processing the letters to applicants very shortly. I would guess that letters will go out in the mail by the end of the week. Once they are processed in their system, you can check on the connect website, or you can always check with Admissions to see if they will give you an answer." So it sounds like we'll hear from St. Thomas hopefully by the end of the week!!! Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!
  14. Slightly off topic because post-degree BSW but I know a few of us here have applied: I emailed St.
  15. Cool, I sent Angela a quick email just to check in. I know for sure it was delivered because I had it sent by courier so I know it got there and was signed for. I assume they're just crazy busy, so I'm not expecting a fast response, but figured it couldn't hurt just to check in. Thanks for the info.
  16. Interesting that she emailed you back about it! When'd you send it in? I sent in an updated official transcript and it would have gotten there on the 19th ish (I checked, they definitely had received / signed for it) but Angela hasn't let me know officially that she's gotten it. Don't want to bug her, haha. So how long abouts did that email take to get to you after you sent in the transcript?
  17. You may have better luck in the actual social work board (it's hiding under professional degrees). This is a thread about Canadian Universities specifically, but there are TONS of threads for American universities (and even a BSW thread) so you're probably more likely to find someone who knows about the program over there. As you can tell, there aren't that many of us here, we're just very very loud.
  18. Is anyone else still obsessively checking their ROSI / other places for status updates even though it is well past business hours??! At least I've cut it down to once every hour as opposed to like once every five minutes....
  19. I think, from other grad programs I know of, referred to the department means that if you also had to apply to the school, they have given you the OK and then referred you on to the social work department to make a final decision. So, for U of T I had to apply to the school of graduate studies AND the social work program. If SGS decided I wasn't a good candidate, they wouldn't have referred my application to the school of social work to look at. I feel like its much the same status as "forwarded to selection committee" which is where my StU application is hanging out at. Mostly, it's not a rejection so don't lose hope just yet! I think the most important thing to remember for everyone right now is no news is still good news - or at the very least it isn't yet bad. Good luck!!
  20. So much conflicting information!! The email from when they received my application said "early April". I wonder if they told you mid-April to cover themselves if it takes a little longer than this week? I also just realized it said they'd send out by email, which is nice because the LORIS admissions site is super annoying and I have no idea where it would show up there either. I'm going to be honest, I'm feeling no hope around Laurier right now, but I'd still like to know, you know?
  21. I don't know how many people get in from the waitlist, but I assume there'll be at least a few (though, the Thunder Bay program is a lot smaller so its hard to say how many). I do know I have to have decided by April 24th, so if that happens it may still be a few weeks from now. I assume lots of us who applied to the HBSW also applied to other schools for both BSWs and MSWs, and I know a lot of people applied to BSWs as back up. So, when/if those people get into MSWs they will probably decline the HBSW. But since U of T is still releasing decisions, Laurier hasn't released any, it would probably still be a bit of time before waitlist movement. Good luck, hope you hear good news!
  22. Hey! Still haven't heard from U of T yet either. Hours wise: 720 paid experience (summer job two years in a row at a food bank) 850 or so volunteer experience working at a Sexual Health Resource Centre (including being on the executive board for the past two years as volunteer coordinator & assistant director) 60 or so at a peer support centre Total of 1630 I feel pretty good about my experience but I think I'm lacking in academics (I met the cutoff, but I'm not exceptional). I did okay in research methods (A-). I also am in History/Gender studies and am worried it won't be seen as 'relevant' enough to matter. I'm pretty sure U of T is upholding what they said about it being your whole application together so I wouldn't get too worried just yet. I'm sure your application has lots of strengths! Will, as always, keep y'all updated when I hear from places. I am dying to hear this week....!
  23. I'm not finished my undergrad either. I sent in an updated transcript with my research methods course on it the other week though, so maybe that'll help! I have a friend also finishing her undergrad who got in on the first round, but I think she probably did research methods last year at the latest or the year before so who knows.
  24. Oh that makes a lot more sense. Very exciting about Lakehead though! I agree, it's so nice to just know what's happening. Good luck on everything! I didn't say that the number of people on this forum who have been accepted was any indication of anything. Just pointing out an observation. (I also think the number is closer to 800/900, at least for U of T, which is terrifying. Lakehead is apparently closer to 500.) Just neat to hear that we do have people who have been accepted, and I think will continue to do so. I am choosing to go with the idea that we are all still on equal ground until mid-April. We have no idea how they are choosing to do waves so I'm not letting that get to my head just yet. Good luck and I hope you hear good news!
  25. Hey! Do you mind if I ask how / when you heard about the rejection from St. Thomas? I got into Lakehead as well! Which campus? U of T has done two waves of acceptances so far - I think total less than ten people on this thread have gotten in. Pretty sure they're still reviewing and accepting people! I don't think anyone has heard from Laurier yet. York may have accepted a few? Good luck!!
