Canadian Universities MSW. The waiting game 2015 admissions
magfish replied to smpalesh's topic in Social Workers Forum
Gah! I just got an email from my academic reference. I'd been really worried she was going to give me not great letters since she wasn't great about meeting deadlines and I figured this meant she didn't think highly of my, but I emailed her to let her know I wasn't applying for one of the schools I was going to get a reference from her for and she wished me good luck and said I "certainly deserved a place in graduate school"! Which is just amazing. I am so relieved because I think this means her references must have actually been good and I have been really stressing about this. It's just such a relief that if I don't get it in won't be because I picked the wrong person to write me a letter. PHEW! -

No changes to my ROSI either. I knew it was way too optimistic. Next week you better bet I'll be checking every single hour of the day hahaha. I am sure these two are not the only acceptances going out. U of T has always done them in waves (for the 1 yr, for last years 1 yr & 2 yr) so no reason at all to lose any hope everyone. I'm sure we'll see lots more acceptances in the next few weeks. -

Oh GOD this is heartwrenching. When I saw how many new pages were on this forum I just knew something happened, but I only saw it now and ROSI is unavailable (till 10PM, according to a previous poster?) and I don't know HOW I am going to survive the next two hours even though I am steeling myself because I can't get my hopes up that a decision will have been made yet. This is going to be the longest weekend of my life. (I wasted five minutes checking all my other application spots [Laurier, and OUAC for Lakehead, and the STU site for St. Thomas] and nothing on any of them, of course. I know I still have at least a few more weeks to go but holy hell are they going to take forever. No, that's fine, I have like six papers due at the end of March so slow weeks isn't the worst thing but oh god oh god oh god.) Congrats to everyone who has heard so far!!! What amazing news - hope you all get to have proper celebrations this weekend. -

Really. Finishing my PSE during the middle of exams was NOT FUN. I'm sure they have to have started by now?! Even if we don't hear till early April that's only a few weeks away! There simply isn't time to only be starting now. -

Yeah!! Like I have applied to programs in so many places. My main choice is U of T so that I can live at home and commute, but I've applied to Lakehead in TBay and a program out east - if I get in somewhere not-U of T I really need to figure out housing and moving which is so overwhelming. Exactly, my summer job for the past two years (a foodbank that I love working at) wanted an answer by Feb 28th - but they can only hire me if I'm a student (non profit that hires under a gov't grant), plus one program I applied to starts in July. I told them I couldn't give them an answer but that I hoped they'd take a chance on me - still no word from them. It's just very stressful. I agree, reading this forum freaks me out a lot but it is also keeping me semi-sane - if no one else has heard I still have a chance! @prairiegirl2015 I applied for 2 year at U of T, Laurier, and Laurentian, and one year BSW's at Lakeheard & St Thomas (NB). Currently in History & Gender studies at Queen's. So I know I have no reason to know yet- there's still at least a few weeks if not a month, doesn't make it any less stressful. -

Yes- so so lost! I may not have a summer job due to the length of this wait time, and I'm struggling to apply to other jobs without having any idea if I'll be a student. It's just tough you know? -

Bear in mind I have no actual idea. BUT someone mentioned (for the U of T advanced) that 75 people or so are waitlisted. I believe the program accepts around that number, or less, of students. So it depends a lot on your position. It also depends obviously on how many people drop out, and I think less people turn down a school like U of T. So hope for the best but expect the worst, I suppose. Wishing you lots of luck on spontaneous waitlist movement!! -

Oh dear god I don't think I can handle this. We could hear in a few weeks! Like. AGH. I am so scared and so nervous I almost don't want to know, put off the inevitable? God damn this is tough. -

Same boat on both counts! I'm half convinced I have a good shot at everything I applied to and half convinced I am totally 10000% screwed, so that's fun. Last year it looks like most of the 2 year applicants for U of T found out the first few days of April (the 3rd / 4th) so that would be amazing. One of my BSW's has said "last week of March" and haven't heard anything from the other. Gah I'm going crazy for no reason! -
MSW acceptance with unrelated undergrad degree?
magfish replied to alex bo balex's topic in Social Workers Forum
I hope not. I'm in history and have tried to compensate by picking up a gender studies minor & a diversity certificate. If I don't get in this year I'm planning to spend a year volunteering and potentially taking a local community college course or two (or signing up for a few online university courses) in a more "related" field like sociology or even into to social work courses if I can find them. Then even if my degree is a problem it will show I'm committed to the field and taking courses to further my education. Good luck!! -
One more month till those of us who don't hear till April find out! (.....okay, likely more than a month because I doubt we'll hear April 1st [i will freak], but you know. It's the thought that counts. I've been waiting four+ months so whats another couple weeks.......)

It's officially March! For us 2 year applicants that means we've only got a month left! ...alright, fine, we may not hear till mid or (gah!) late April. But I also had a school (St. Thomas) tell me I could hear by end of March, so I'm averaging it out. -
I am playing a LOT of Sims 4. Like probably an unhealthy ammount. I should really still be doing actual school work but it's tough because they already have my transcripts and stuff.... I can't believe I have another month of this.

I'm gonna be honest, it could be tough. My boyfriend is at U of T law and currently renting an apartment with another person. They pay $900 each. I've never heard of anyone paying much less than that (unless you come way out into the boonies, where you lose it all on commuting) and frequently hear of people spending much more. If you can live a year on only $3k after rent, all the power to you!! For those considering Queens - as a current undergrad with many friends in hrad school, I would highly recommend! I have two friends in the polisci masters who love it (though they both did undergrad here as well).

Just had my hour and a half long phone interview with St. Thomas! It's only a BSW, so not my first choice, but it's definitely my first choice BSW program and speaking to them confirmed that. I think it went pretty well... but the end of March is SO far away! Agh, I wish there was a fast-forward button on life. -

I applied for the two-year and that's what mine says too. I think that means you haven't gone to U of T yet and so that is the same as no decision made yet. It's basically a nothing. So there is still hope! Also just noticed your username, I knit too! -

I just figured this out tonight! Log into the place where you applied (the apply.sgs.whatever page) and look in your profile information, your student number should be listed there. Mine is 10 numbers, and is different than my 2014#### one. Then your pin is your birthday, YYMMDD (I believe). That should get you logged into a page where you have to change your pin, then you're in! -

Hi all! Lurker, finally getting an account. I'm here in the anxious/nervous waiting boat with y'all, applied to 2 year MSW's at U of T, Laurier, and Laurentian (anyone else??!), and 1 year post degree BSW's at Lakehead (TBay) and St. Thomas (in NB!). I've got my conference call interview with St. Thomas tomorrow and I am so nervous, was hoping to see if anyone else had done the same but it doesn't look like it. Anyways, I'll just be here, obsessively checking my email from now until April. Gah, why is it so far away?!? I'm so fed up with writing essays for my current degree, who cares about the Spanish Civil War when in two months I may be on my way to being a social worker!
