  1. Pretty much in the same situation. I'm attending, so I can give you my impressions later. What did you think of the campus in general and surrounding area?
  2. ASHA edfind should post the total number of students in each program (under grad, slp, aud, phd) as well as the incoming class size which can differ slightly from the target class size (because sometimes the admissions committee incorrectly predict the number who will accept/decline). I know that many schools do rounds, but I think many also send out all admissions around the same time and know that a certain percent will decline (usually around 60%). So in the later case, its not so much getting lucky (in rounds also many school do their top applicants first), schools just they admit many more people than the number of students who will actually accept. If you are simply trying to calculate your odds of getting in look at the total number of admission offers (of course assuming your statistics match somewhat those to admitted students). If you want to know how big the class will actually be when you arrive on your first day of class, look at the target class size.
  3. Sorry, I did not mean to offend anyone. I am not familiar with Elmhurst nor its candidacy status and process, I just saw not accredited (which I think, WITHOUT having a candidacy status, is not a legitimate program to consider, but there maybe no such programs so the point maybe moot.) As pointed out, it seems to be fine with the candidacy status. Therefore, its newer status would just be another factor to consider with a bunch of pros and cons in either side. Since both will still cost a significant about of money, it might be worth digging around in other departments to see if they will take TAs or GAs from outside their departments.
  4. While it might be worth it to go to a cheaper program vs one with a lot of prestige depending up on personal factors, going to a program that is not accredited is very very risky! If it does not get accredited, I'm pretty sure you cannot be certified by ASHA. I'm totally for going with a mid level program that is significantly cheaper than a very highly ranked program with no funding. But, not to sound too dramatic, I think it's a little crazy to go to a program that is not accredited. If it doesn't get accredited then you will be paying all that money and be kindof stuck.
  5. Just wanted to second this : ) So far I've been very successful with my application process and have also gotten into several programs, including one "top 5" (not that that really means too much, I think it's all about fit since any program will get you a job. I just wanted to show I'm being taken seriously as an applicant at all different types of schools with my USU prereqs). My main point is, I think if you are a strong applicant (I mean solid GPA, good letters of rec, above average GRE scores) ANY graduate program will take you very seriously as a candidate regardless of whether or not you took your prereqs online or in class. I also want to add that from person experience, the graduate programs I've applied to seem to really value seeing tough classes on a transcript (hard science and college level math courses). I have what in SLP would be considered quite a low GPA but took a lot of math and science courses, and they seems to have actually helped me in spite lowering my GPA somewhat. I feel like that's sometimes overlooked by applicants because so many people seem to be talking about their GPA and the average GPA of programs. However, I truly believe the admissions committee really takes into heavy consideration what a student's major is when looking at GPA, but just the number. All in all USU's online program has made it possible for me to become an SLP : )
  6. Anyone planning on attending Purdue's open house from out of state/ far away? Looking into staying Sunday through Tuesday. If anyone is interested in exploring the campus/nearby area with me, message me. Also, if anyone has any insights into the program, I'd love to hear them. Wishing all applicants the best!
  7. I was accepted and am planning to attend the March 14th open house. Hope to meet some of you there : ) From what I understand, it is a open house for all graduate programs but individual departments will be represented. You can rsvp online and the communication disorders program is an option you can choose.
