I'll be at UT next year -- American Studies. Just visited, and although I have never been to Texas, loved it.

AS a Minnesota native, I would strongly recommend NOT living in the suburbs. Minneapolis is affordable, safe, and way more convenient.

Has anyone been rejected by Yale yet? I wish we could get that business over with. I'm tired of explaining to my grandmother it's a no-go.

Ah, that's a bummer -- but thanks for the info! It's good to know, and I've been accepted to a program that's a better fit (and thriving) anyway.

I know this is kind of a shot in the dark, but I was wondering if anyone else is waiting to hear whether they've received Iowa's Presidential Fellowship. If so, any idea when we may hear? I'll be fund-less without it...

Yeah, it seems as though both Harvard and Yale's acceptances -- if things are the same as last year -- will come out in the next week. FUN!

Whoa. I am beyond elated. I have a friend who's in his first year of the program, who I'm hoping to get the skinny from soon. Congrats to you too, mastermind. Is it among your top schools? For me, it's pretty much a perfect fit...

Did I actually get into UT-Austin? Spinning off of two rejections (and one sure to be forthcoming) I almost don't believe it. But I curiously logged into my account ... and an acceptance was there. Anyone know what's going on? I heard we weren't supposed to hear for another two weeks...

Also, I don't think it would be that far afield to not hear anything from a lot of AMS programs until the very of the month, if not later. Minnesota is the only one (that I applied to) that I'm fairly certain will be sorted out in the next two weeks. (shudder)

I'm an American Studies person! The bulk of my research is the Southern house and its representation in literature, film, art and photography -- with a lot of spatial studies mixed in the boat. Schools listed below. Anyone else looking into concepts of physical space / habitation in American Studies?

I'm a pretty strong candidate, and have had a few phone conversations with profs, but have yet to hear any admissions decisions. Anyone out there applying to American Studies PhD's heard anything? My list: Harvard Yale Minnesota UT-Austin Iowa Chicago (History) Stanford (Modern Thought & Lit)
