  1. I hope I get accepted into UNL (I am on waitlist). They seem to have a really great program for my own interests and some interesting research on friendships which I did a thesis on(and got an article in The Guardian (I am still really excited about that, sorry!).
  2. I know that UNC does have some sort of requirement on calc. As for other schools, I would just say get good at some stats, but be ready to take stats regardless of ability in stats.
  3. I just got some really great coverage for my discussion and our group's panel in The Guardian. Getting any sort of news attention is great news for me. I am also on the wait-list to a school I really want to get into. Should I relay this article to the graduate advisor?
  4. The way I see it is that if you have an option of either staying at your BA school for a PhD or going to no school at all, I would suggest going to school. The reason is that you want to build your CV and other credentials. Now, if you have job lined up or maybe another school you got accepted too, I would move away from your old school. But again, this is very largely up to you and if staying in your old school makes you happier, go ahead. Being unhappy with your school at the graduate level is so much worse than being unhappy with your school at the undergrad level.
  5. Thank you! And I realize that this sort of post is kind of frowned upon. I just want to make an informed decision beforehand rather then acting on impulse. Oh and congratulations on getting into IUB!
  6. Hello, I just got waitlisted to University of Nebraska-Lincoln for sociology. For the first two days, I was ecstatic. Finally, after three long years of applying to graduate school, 155 152 on my GRE, almost publishing(my publication got a new publisher so its been a 8 months trying to get published which is another stressor), and a great graduate GPA, I finally heard back from somebody. And now, I am panicking because I am having that impulse to control the uncontrollable. What should I do? Should I email the graduate chair? Would I have a better shot at getting in next year? I guess, I would rather talk to a neutral party before I screw up my chances.
