The concern I would have is that Ivy's (and similar caliber schools) are notorious for denying folks tenure the first time around. I would look at the departments history with granting tenure to assistant prof's.

GA info will be coming later but I was offered a scholarship with my acceptance letter. Congrats to everyone who was accepted. I'll see some of you in the fall!

Yeah and USC and UW moved up. Still leaning strongly towards Penn though.

Departments aren't the only ones involved in hiring decisions, so while departmental rank is important, it isn't the only factor considered. A dean of an arts & sciences college may prefer the status of Columbia over IU.

US News might be flawed, but across various disciplines, hiring practices bear them out.

I am considering it, but it will be a pretty large expense before what will be a massive undertaking and expense of moving from the west coast to the east coast. More than likely I will just do skype interviews. They say that GA'ships are available for most if not all admitted students but that not interviewing will mean that you don't have any say and may end up with an assignment well outside your target area of speciality. I'm hoping for something in admissions or advising personally.

Congrats! I also got into Rossier (PASA) and University of Washington (Higher Ed Leadership), but am seriously leaning towards Penn at this point. I am heavily weighing overall cost, cost of living and prestige. I got a 10k scholarship offer from Penn, no word on funding for any of the other schools I applied to at this point. In addition, my fiancee has a teaching job offer in Philly for 42k/year that should seriously help cover our living expenses while I am in the program.
