  1. I have decided to accept the USTA instead of the Germany ETA. Do I need to notify Fulbright? I am confused...
  2. still waiting on USTA Austria and going crazy trying to figure out if i want that or the fulbright to germany more. if only Austria would send out their notifications so i can start to focus in class again...
  3. My friend applied and hasn't heard anything yet... so I don't think so!
  4. Hey! I checked out your blog and was linked to your email, so I sent you a few questions! Just wanted to give you a heads up
  5. I have this same question, but I always imagined that it would be totally feasible. I considered the possibility, but honestly, if I get the USTA, I don't think i can wait a full year to go to Austria. I think USTA often feels like they are short on good candidates though (one of the Professors at IES Study Abroad Vienna told me this, and I think her husband is on the Fulbright commission), so I don't think Fulbright would count against you! Totally just my two cents though.
  6. Hey guys! Seeing more Germany people here, so I just wanted to post the link again for the facebook group we made https://www.facebook.com/groups/822197817856693/
  7. Two weeks after they send you the official letter! But i don't know when that will be. I am at with you! I also applied to the USTA in Austria and will be torn between the two if I graduate. As someone who has had time abroad made really difficult by not having enough money, the higher pay of Austria is really appealing to me. I also like that it is easy to do a second year, though someone mentioned that Germany ETAs have extended before. But I will have to see where I am placed. I think my heart might be in Austria, but if I were placed in a city like Karlsruhe, that might be difficult for me (as I really love it there). So I am (potentially... still don't know about USTA) in the same boat :/
  8. Pysch_33, if I get the USTA Austria, I will probably turn down the ETA Germany. So you never know!
  9. recipient of the germany ETA!!!!!
  10. Germany people: was your status in the title of the email?
  11. I heard of a lot of people being bumped up!!! You never know what other offers people will get! My thoughts are with you though, I am sorry
  12. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, goodbye to my productivity for this week... i just got an email and my heart stopped. until i realised that it was just my lab coordinator doing normal coordination things
  13. edit to myself: 2013/2014, they released the research like 3 days before the ETAs... so forget what i just said still freaking myself out though
  14. CONGRATS!!! oh but now my heart is doing flip flops...Last year they released the ETA and research around the same dates...
  15. That is awesome! I am just finishing my undergrad now, so I will have some time before I really determine where life is taking me. While i am not qualified to it myself, I get to watch a lot of diagnostic visits (ADOS/ADI for every child/parent, regardless of if they have a previous diagnosis or not) and am also very interested in language acquisition. I work a lot with children outside of my lab and it's so interesting to me how my behaviour has changed since starting to work there. Parents with younger children are also starting to approach me with certain concerns (i.e. nonverbal kids or what to do about stimming) and it is still strange to me how applicable what i have learned in a lab setting is to my daily life edit: just so you're clear my first piece of advice is always to go to our city's autism clinic! not pretending to be an expert or anything but i have given advice on different ways of relating to children or and assure parents that what they think is "strange" (like sleeping problems and anxiety) is very normal in children with autism
  16. that's awesome! i actually work in a neuropsych lab, and we are currently look at sensory processing in children with autism in regards to hearing and cognition and taste/smells. because of the extent that i've learned in my lab, i have thought a lot about going into that field of research (the lab is under brain and cognitive sciences, but because i have experience with children with intellectual disability and autism, they took me on). but my area of study is wayyyyyyyyy different than that. I am a history student, currently looking at theories of atrocity and the personal accounts of soldiers who perpetuated mass murder on the eastern front in 1941. i am looking at a lot of Wehrmacht orders and well as Tagebücher describing official activities of the army and comparing them to diaries and post-war interviews. Basically, what I have found is that a lot of men were never explicitly required to participate in the mass killings and that there were often no consequences for making oneself scare during these operations, so my thesis is examining different theories that explain men's motivations to participate. not exactly light reading, haha. aww munich is so fantastic!!!! my fingers are crossed for you!
  17. hopping on this because i am also a germany candidate! what is your honors thesis on? i am currently "writing" my honors thesis, and by that, i mean that i am refreshing this page and my email every five minutes. are you hoping for a particular city in Germany? I love southern germany and have really loved nuremberg, so i ranked bayern as my first choice. I am also particularly interested in dialects, so if I were placed in the middle of nowhere in Bayern, I would find that really cool in a different way I also love Karlsruhe, so I ranked Baden-Württemberg second.
  18. I have a very important paper to finish today and a draft of my thesis due friday... and i can't stop checking my email. I am just hoping that this week proves to be so busy that I don't have time to think. I feel like I cannot wait another two weeks!
  19. Would't that be amazing? I am guessing that it is going to be march 27th or march 30th though, based on previous years and the competition for Germany ETA with Austria USTA

    DAAD

Also a general question -- what types of programs are people applying for funding for? I am wanting to look into DAAD funding after a year off (doing something fulbright related.. hopefully) but haven't done a lot of research for it yet. I just want to get a general idea so I can start to form my own (personally looking to get into education and community outreach... hoping to learn Turkish and work with migrant populations within Germany)

Hey Caelryck! Are you currently on a Fulbright or something similar teaching in Germany? I have applied for the Fulbright ETA and also the Teaching Assistantship in Austria, but am wondering if there are other options to teach if I am not accepted to one of these two.
  22. Willst du mich lieber per Email oder facebook schreiben? Ich hab ziemlich viel geschrieben und möchte den ganzen thread nicht übernehmen! Mein Name bei facebook is Kaight Conheady. Mal sehen...
  23. wait that seems like my life. i actually spent a year in Hannover, which kicked off my German obsession, and then i went back to live with my host family for a summer, and then spent 6 months in vienna. i have started a german conversation club, speak german with my friends from Germany allllllll the time, and speak ot a lot of my American friends only in German. you are definitely right -- i was so proud when people mistook me for German for the first time. Now all of my German friends make fun of me though, because my "machen"s have turned into "mochen" thanks to the Austrian accent. And I am actually still waiting on Austria (and Germany!) so I am in pretty much the same boat that you are! I applied Germany ETA, did you as well? Or are you doing research? Interesting that we have the possibility of being in the same cohort group...
  24. haha he is doing something music related, so i guess not in your direction at all. but if you still want to talk to him let me know! are you going to be based in vienna? i did a lot of research in the state archives while living there and it is an AMAZING city
  25. one of my good friends is in vienna right now on a research fulbright. do you mind if i ask what your topic is? i can connect you to my friend if you want to email him any questions!
