  1. Actually, I've been somewhat curious re. other proposals. With the hope of helping others, I'd be happy to try and answer specific questions re. my own writing process for the proposal on this public forum. Perhaps others, as well, can chime in on a potential new thread/topic: what are the top three (or some other arbitrary number) suggestions you have when it comes to writing a Fulbright Statement of Grant Purpose? Best, J the Z
  2. Greetings All, Looks like the Pre-departure Orientation schedules are up: http://fulbright.state.gov/orientation/ Best, jim the zymurgist
  3. I'm off to Cologne. Berlin is a fantastic and alive city. Congrats!
  4. My mailing and permanent address are the same–both of which are very far from NY (which is where the envelope came from). Luck to all! Prost!!!
  5. I'm in Southern California. Yeah. Enjoying a celebratory Serpent's Stout from Lost Abbey. Yeah!
  6. I just got a 9x11 manila envelope in the mail from new york; i got the Fulbright Full Grant to Germany!!! It's dated March 10th. Yeah!!!
  7. Hopefully our Austrian Anonymous friend browses the board because I have a question: Did you apply directly to the Austrian Commission (with the Jan 15 deadline), or through the American IIE (with a deadline back in the fall). The reason why I ask is because I have several colleagues who applied directly to the Austrian Commission for ETA and are waiting to hear. Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer. All the Best, Jim the Zymurgist
  8. Indeed! I was unaware, though, that Austria offered a combo research/eta grant–I thought it was either one or though other. Sehr interessant. Congrats Anonymous! Where are you headed? All the Best, jim the zymurgist
  9. Just received word from the folks over at DAAD via email, that's a negative ghost rider. Rats. Anyone else hear back from the DAAD?
  10. I speak German, though I am not fluent. My reading and writing is far better than my conversation skills. My proposed research project, though, relies heavily on my German reading skills. Are you a full-grant, or ETA applicant? I also applied to DAAD...but the afternoon I mailed in my application along with copies of my proposals I noticed a glaring, careless mistake in my proposal that I thought I had taken care of in my editing phases. Turns out I printed the wrong version of my proposal (not the final version) and sent it in. So, after having a FML moment, I calmly accepted that I probably drastically reduced my chances at getting the grant. Oh well. All the Best, jim the zymurgist
  11. Na Wahnsinn...
  12. Looks like there are 90 full-grants available. 220 is more than 1.5-2 times the amount of grants available. I guess this means that the passport photo request is standard procedure. In light of that, what belies hope is this rhetoric: "and subsequent placement process..." Oh well. Better rev up that camera. Do I smile?
  13. I got the same email today. I haven't tried to count how many it was sent to so I don't know if there has been a further narrowing down. We'll see, ay?
  14. I like to meditate by cycling over 100 miles per week, and drinking beer; keeps things in perspective.
  15. To which country did you apply? Did you apply to the same one this year?
  16. I recently read through the 2009-10 finalist thread on this forum; I recall someone being a 08-09 finalist, and then a 09-10 finalist. I forget whether or not he or she was a grantee though.
  17. Halloo fellow candidates! I too am a full grant finalist for Germany. Congrats to all who have made the cut!
