YAY welcome!
-
For those of you who have been offered - does anyone else find it a little bit weird that you're not allowed to travel post grant but have to return asap/directly to the U.S.? Any insights as to why this is? And are they are any alumni who have successfully been able to get around this requirement? If so, how? What did you do, etc.

I'd be happy to help with reading statements and giving general advice for ETAs as well!

also danmuji & miliek: From the looks of the small email bit shared it must have come from the Korea office rather than IIE? And since it's about 11 am there it would make a little bit of sense! ALSO YAY!!!!! <3

YAY UK FOLKS!!!! :) Welcome to the pre-grantee stage. And for those not selected, sending all the love. <3

I certainly agree with some of what's been said by others here, though I've had the 'transparency' issue work against me rather than for me in some cases. Since most jobs/fellowships are looking to bring people that really want to have the opportunity on board, sometimes its almost better not to say anything and see what happens rather than to tell them you have other opportunities in the wings. It could makes you appear flighty, and not as into the opportunity as they may want (even if you really want it!). I will say that while Fulbright is wonderful, getting a dream job is really difficult. It takes years for some people, if I was in your shoes I think I would take the job/opportunity if it was offered. You can always apply to Fulbright again down the road, but if you return from Fulbright the same job/opportunity may not be available anymore? Obviously both of them would help you get to where you want to be, but considering you're a recommended candidate already for Fulbright, more experience in terms of the other opportunity won't go against you if you decide to re-apply! (This could probably go both ways too though.) Maybe I'm weird for thinking this way but a job/fellowship in your field can promise different and sometimes better things than a Fulbright can. Ultimately I think it depends on where/what you'd like to be doing in the future and which one, at least at this juncture in your life, would help those goals more. Good luck, it's absolutely a difficult decision to make.

Hey thanks, I found the support email address and sent something last night and they just fixed it. Woo I exist now!
-
Awesome. I did contact the person on the pre-grantee page but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. If I could get the IIE support email that would be great (feel free to PM me!). I'll add in Jonathan myself since he's my areas program manager. Thanks so much for letting me know.
-
This is exactly how mine looks! I'm glad I'm not the only one who seems to be MIA in their systems... I'm going to email the contact person after posting this to see what we're supposed to do in these cases. Edit: I used your screen cap as an example of what it looked like for me. Hopefully she'll get back to me tomorrow and I can share the info!

So for those folks that have been offered a grant and have accessed the portal... Am I missing the place where we should upload our documents? It says in the 'Programs' folder but when I go there it's just blank? No place to upload anything. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something here.

Hi! I'm another of the Indonesian ETAs. There's also MudcatJR! Awesome to meet you. I'll put my name on the email list but maybe we could create a FB group/Google Hangout too or something?
-
@chethedoctor: My FPA was included as a CC in my acceptance email. I think it's the FPA's decision if they want to be included or not. Here's what IIE put at the end of my email. 'Copy to Fulbright Program Adviser (if enrolled).' Not sure they get a list ahead of time except at the recommendation stage...

At SMartin11879: They're not opening it until Friday! it says so on the top of the pre-grantee website. Sending my congrats to all accepted and love to those who didn't make it. Try again if you can for sure! Along the same lines as cloudysky16 & irvine36 (my work computer won't let me quote for some reason), just having the experience had given all of us valuable insight about ourselves and made us better writers and that is always something to celebrate.

I think it's just for the country's listed? Indonesia has its own orientation in country at the start of the grant so it's not on the list since it has a separate one. Probably best to email the Commission for confirmation though!
-
Eurasia for research is July 29-31! And yes it does include links for all the orientations. Here's the website itself: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/resources-for-pre-grantees-2015-2016 If it doesn't work for any reason just let me know and I'd be happy to give out dates!
-
Maybe they just haven't gotten around to adding the dates to the 'For those Recommended' webpage yet. According to the link I have Study/Research for China is June 24-26!
-
Hi Raco! What country are you applying for? I'd be happy to give you the dates from the website I was linked to in my acceptance email. There's just a range of different ones depending on what region/country you applied for.

Hi Mudcat! Another super excited accepted Indonesia ETA here! (I've been lurking on this thread/forum as a guest for a while now. I'm 'K' on the spreadsheet.) No official letters here yet, but I don't expect them until later this week or maybe even the week after really. Even then I'm not sure if that letter will have much additional information? I'm thinking we'll need to hear or get something from the Commission that runs Fulbright in Indonesia itself, and when that comes feels like anyone's guess! From what the Commission has on its website though, it looks like the 2014 folks had their orientation the first two weeks of September so I imagine we'll probably start around the same time? Good luck to all the rest still waiting to hear. This forum and the spreadsheet have definitely been a huge help even though I haven't registered until now. No matter if you get a good answer or a not so good answer, all of you guys are awesome and worked your butts off to make it this far and that is absolutely something to celebrate!
