Okay I have good news!! I just logged back into ORPAS, and there's an option that says you can use the secure applicant messaging system to make changes to your app.. and when you click on that link there is an option to where you can upload your resume! yay! -

Hey! Originally the U of A website said February 15, and then they changed it to February 1. On the applygrad application site it also says February 1. Sooo... Unfortunately I'd say the deadline is February 1 :/ -

Hey there!! So I read somewhere in the Dalhousie instructions that basically they just want to have an idea of how you plan to fund your studies. So for myself, I put loans, line of credit, savings, and parent help if needed (not really true, but gives them assurance) The U of A actually asks for similar information. I don't really like it because for one I don't get how you can apply for scholarships before even getting into grad school!? And do they have preference for people with funding/scholarships? I don't know. Not a fan. But I wouldn't stress about the question too much. -

Forgive me if this is a silly question. I'm filling out the ORPAS application for UWO - I'm at the volunteer experience section. I don't see any areas for work experience (I'm an SLP assistant) - so would I just put that in the volunteer experience section?? Thanks :P -

Hey Speechies, Thanks for the positive vibes! I have my fingers crossed for you as well I only applied to U of A last year, but this year I'm applying to U of A, Dalhousie, and Western for sure.. Preference on U of A since I live in Edmonton. Still debating on U of T and McGill because I'll have to take one more prereq in the winter to be able to apply to them.. basically trying to decide of it's worth the extra money. However, if I don't get into the other schools and I didn't try there I'd probably wonder "what if?" - so likely I'll end up applying to all 5. UBC is out of the question unfortunately as I'm missing too many prereqs from there. What about you? What schools are you applying to? Good for you, you are much more mentally prepared than I , haha. What are your back ups if you don't mind me asking? The heavy weight on GPA turns me off as well. I just don't think it's fair, there are too many other factors that can determine GPA (ie: different grading for different courses, "easier" undergrads, terrible profs, whether or not you have to support yourself, etc.). Plus, I don't think crazy high GPA = good clinician (I've worked with some extremely "book smart" people with pretty average people skills). I get that you need to have educational strengths when undergoing a masters degree, but I don't agree that you have to have above a 3.8 to do so. I really feel that they just don't want to go through tons and tons of applications to see which truly are the strongest across the board, so they have a "cut off" in mind. My opinion on it anyway It really is a bit of a turn off. -

Hi Speechies, I can definitely related to how you are feeling. This can be a very frustrating and disheartening process - it is difficult not to get bogged down in that. I didn't get in last year and I still, to be honest, feel sad and a bit of resentment about it. Especially, as you mentioned, the GPA thing. I've worked in the field for years, I have good marks, I have research experience.. Gave up my life for the last three years to continue with my schooling, but I KNOW my application didn't even get looked at which is probably... One of the worst feelings. Anyway, the bitterness took over for a while after my rejection and I thought about completely changing fields, but couldn't find anything that represented the same love I have for SLP (it's been part of my life for almost ten years). So I'm trying again. I stress about it a lot and really worry about what to do if I don't get in; however, if there is something else that interests you I don't think it's bad to change things up! But if it's soley to do with the system and politics around SLP, then you are right, that is sad. Anyway.. Just wanted to let you know I commiserate with you. -

Last year the U of A changed their application process to be online only.. it was meant to open on October 15. They changed it to November 1. Then changed it til mid November. Then the end of November.. then the first week of December. I ended up having to apply during exams. The worst part was I couldn't give my references the form to fill out until the online application opened - so they all had to do it during exams/Christmas time. It was awful -

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that my reference told me that a girl she knows in Saskatchewan got a rejection from U of A a few days to a week ago. I'm not sure if it was a letter or an email. I still haven't received anything either, kind of weird. -

Well this is a sad day I knew it would be really competitive, but wow. I went through the SLP Assistant program at MacEwan in 2007 and have worked as an SLPA for 5 years. I had a 3.72 subGPA, volunteer experience, research experience, and great references. However, I had a prereq that pulled down my prereq GPA to a 3.4 (and my entire GPA) and a prereq over 12 years old (which I wasn't worried about until reading about it on here). I guess that must have been enough to axe me How heartbreaking. Sorry to everyone in a similar position and congrats to everyone that's not -

Another long time lurker here! I've been trying to NOT let myself join this as I was worried I'd be on here even more often and I have a final to study for! haha. Anyway, I finally gave in. I wanted to reply to this because I'm honestly really confused about U of A! It seems a little early to me for them to being done with acceptances given past years? Unless they are really on the ball this year...
