  1. I feel like.. 6 weeks from the deadline for first wave. So maybe by the end of next week?? But it's hard to say with the U of A, they haven't been overly consistent with their decision send out dates.. And then with the change this year...
  2. Yeah it's pretty shocking that they have you pay so much money and then don't even take the time to look at your application. Hopefully all schools aren't like that, it definitely doesn't seem like the case in the States, which is awesome! I'm sorry to hear that you also seemed to have got a bit screwed by the system. And it sucks that if the school doesn't look at your personal statement to see your explanation/journey.. then they'll never know the work you've put in to improve yourself. I also went to more than one school and I know it gets confusing when they are calculating GPA and it's very possible for them to overlook things, make mistakes, etc. Or it's just so cut and dry like averaging marks together, when that shouldn't be the be all end all.
  3. Thanks for the kind words!! My subGPA was 3.75 last year when I applied. I was told my experience would count for a lot, but since they didn't look at my application my experience didn't even factor in. So that's my fear for this year, not getting looked at again. Unfortunately my subGPA is down a bit this year because I had a 6 credit course that was really tough & I got a B+ in it. So now my GPA is 3.68, so I'm more nervous because of that. The rumour for most schools is they really only look at apps with over a 3.7 (in Canada). There's only 6 schools up here, and I applied to the five that I had the prerequisites for. I guess we will see.. I'm not too sure how it works in America for SLPA. I took a two year diploma program. I think it's less time in other provinces though.. Maybe only one year.
  4. Feeling this. I'm a second time applicant. I've been in the field since 2005 (Speech language pathology assistant).. And last year I was straight up rejected; I was so shocked. That's a long story in itself. Basically they didnt even look at my app So I improved my prereq marks (only thing really lagging in my application) and applied to more schools (I live in Canada. Options are VERY limited up here). But I am so, so, so terrified that I'm still not going to get in & there's really not much more I can do besides take a ton more courses that I don't need. I'm 31 this year and I feel very overwhelmed by the thought of not being successful in pursuing my career Anyway.. Just commiserating
  5. Yes mine also shows an ID number now
  6. In the past UBC has actually sent out acceptances even earlier! Like mid-late February!
  7. Yay!!!!!! Congrats
  8. Haha. I think UBC and McGill both use that phone thing
  9. I saw on the results page that someone was accepted to UBC today!
  10. Haha yeah it seemed pretty fast to me!!! But I guess.. what do we know! My first thought was similar, ha, I was like... maybe this is some prodigy that simply must be granted acceptance ASAP And right?! Who gets a 6 on AW?! I got a 4 and was delighted with myself, hehe. Are you applying to both Aud and SLP?
  11. Sooo... I just saw on the results page that someone got accepted to Dalhousie as of February 18!? Really?????!!! Isn't that crazy early for Dal to be sending out decisions? (Based on past years).
  12. Ugh. Yes!!! And I know I'm not going to hear anything until next week at the earliest!!!
  13. It IS annoying. The rejections seem to take forever to come out.. Very stressful
  14. Sorry to hear this! I just wanted to say that I also was rejected last year and was also very confused by some of the stats that were chosen over my own. So I emailed the school and found out how they were weeding out applications; I do really believe it also takes a bit of luck, which sucks if you are the unlucky one!!
  15. Hey! So deadlines were Jan 15 for UAlberta last year. I was also a bit worried that the new deadlines this year mean later acceptances - but it would make sense that they found it so much faster last year with the new online application system that maybe they just decided to give us a bit more time with our apps. That's my hope anyway!! I'll go crazy waiting for April! hehe.
  16. I was so scared for this. Thankfully my subGPA calculation was actually a bit higher than I thought it would be.. I'm in Alberta and ORPAS counts our "As" as 3.9, which I don't get because most As are over 90%!!! Anyway, sorry to hear you aren't impressed That's shit.
  17. Hi guys! I also received an email from Dal this morning (Jan 28). I submitted my online portion in like.. November, but they would have received the rest about two weeks before the deadline. They are probably emailing in alphabetical order and I'm sure you guys will hear soon
  18. Ah that's brutal So sorry. Pretty frustrating when such important things are out of your hands like that!!
  19. Yeah I'd just leave it blank. I filled in a couple of them where my transcripts had the gpa calculated for me, but it's not required as far as I can see. Perhaps you could just resend the references? Then maybe they would just assume the system resent them as a reminder because it was taking too long and you wouldn't have to bother calling them.. just an idea.
  20. Oh great! Thanks so much for letting me know, that makes me feel better for sure
  21. Does anyone who has applied to ORPAS still have outstanding references? I still have one for an academic reference; I know he sent it with just enough time before the deadline.. so I'm wondering if they are just slow to input them or if perhaps I'm screwed :S
  22. I completely agree that the application process is a bit deceptive. I didn't realize that the SLP departments often don't even look at all of the applications that don't meet whatever minimum "criteria" they are looking for - and they actually don't state this minimum. I thought that by paying an application fee I was guaranteed that my application was going to be looked at, especially being way above the minimum GPA and above the competitive GPA listed.. But that wasn't true. And yeah.. They are making a killing on these applications. Last year I only applied to one school, but this year I'm applying to six. Pretty rough on the pocketbook and discouraging to know that perhaps none of my applications will even be considered. As we all know, it's a lot of hard work/time/money put into these applications.. And I really feel that all applications above the minimum that departments state on their website should be considered.. Or the TRUE minimum should be clearly stated.
  23. I believe what the OP was saying is that most (maybe all.. Can't remember at the moment) SLP departments indicate that you need at least a 3.3 to be considered.. So someone with a 3.4 may believe they have a competitive application based on this, when that is simply not the case.
  24. My heart sunk when I realized how expensive it was to apply to ORPAS schools.. I actually applied to both Toronto and Western in order to justify the cost a bit more.. 300 for one app is just ridiculous...
