apply to Daad grant first in almost all cases, then comes applying to the program.
-
Woah that's way ahead of schedule! I thought they were only announcing the shortlist in July/August?

You don't need $8000 on a bank account if you have a letter from someone -- parents? -- who agrees to take financial responsibility for you. Or, if your parents are nice enough, they can transfer money onto an account with your name on it, you print out the account balance, and then wire the money back. As for working while you're there, it's been my experience that the work allowance is plenty to pay for your cost of living, especially if you can land a spot in a student dorm. It's not the most glorious lifestyle, but hey, you're still in Germany (!!) getting a Masters (!!) for cheap!

Wow Horb, I'm still pulling for you! I thought for sure you guys would have results before Easter
-
Yeah, I received the grant... I wonder if it's alphabetic or something? I'm surprised they didn't send out all at the same time...
-
So who all received funding? I'm about 30 minutes away from boarding the plane and saw that they had emailed!
-
Perfect! Okay, then I'll quit hoping for results when I wake up in the morning!
-
Maybe it would be good to ask if will be notified by the Bonn or NYC office?
-
Sigh. I'm beginning to think this was all a hoax

Broke college grad, you'll have to let me know you if you end up in Hamburg! You didn't happen to apply to the PEP program did you? I'll cross my fingers that you get in to LMU as well! St Gallen is supposed to be beautiful! The wait is almost over...

Yeah But studying in Germany is a great solution! The study visa comes with a work allowance and you can usually finance the entirety of your studies on that. Where would you be studying?

It's a CV, Transcript, letters of recommendation (from previous employers and professors), certificates, proof of language skills, etc. It's not uncommon to send 15-20 pages when you apply to jobs here... I had to do a lot of searching for documents, but thankfully my German boyfriend warned me before I left the US

I sent a German application packet (read: 20 pages of crap) to just about every research institute/think-tank that would possibly be related to my field and one of them happened to have an opening right as I moved over. It's a part time gig, but it pays most of my bills and is a great CV booster. My strategy was the following: play stupid. I took a lot of meetings with academics and researchers asking them about how one typically starts an academic career in Germany, differences between working at an institute and an Uni, things that would help a PhD application in Germany, etc. To be honest, my primary goal was to get a foot in the door, but I also learned a lot about the German Uni system. The strategy has worked out really well: some of these people later invited me to conferences or offered me internships. I never would have been so aggressive about networking in the US, but for some reason felt no shame about it in Germany.

Back to Germany lol. Was visiting my family in the US for the past week or so, but it's time for the next semester to start soooo....

So if they're going to announce next week, it's going to be between Monday (Portal down?) and Wednesday, since Thurs and Fri are holidays next week, as well as the following Monday... And at that point, it's starting to not be "Beginning of April" I'm going to be stuck on a plane for 10 hours on Tuesday, so I'm betting they'll announce then...
-
I knew I would sound like an idiot for writing that.
-
I'm betting they will announce early in the day German time, so hopefully you will know before the test? Then again, I've been saying that every day for the past week...
-
I have high hopes for tomorrow... Friday seems like it would be a great time to make an announcement!

I called North America! I'm kind of confused as to what is taking so long... If the selections have already been made, what exactly is the hold up? I can't imagine generating form letters is that time consuming...
