Haha!  I totally agree! I got an email from the grad coordinator of one school that said "congratulations," and I had a mini heart attack until I realized it only said that I have completed my app.  I have been absent since September too.  My dh got transferred, so my options for applications were severely limited, and my life has been crazy getting all my kiddos settled.  I can barely breath from nervousness. Hey, miracles happen, right?  I've missed you all.

I'm in the same boat! I checked and received the same message last night, which is just peachy considering it was also my birthday.   I am banking on it not being a glitch because it also links to a page where you can accept or deny the admission's decision with the graduate school. Though I am, too, still waiting on some more info about funding from the department!
 
Oh, and congrats! We might be colleagues!

So I'm hoping this isn't some random glitch because I haven't gotten an email or phone call or letter or anything yet, but a little while ago, I took a random glance at the results board and saw a few posts from people saying they'd been accepted at Ohio State. So I just checked my own page on the app status site and it says, "Congratulations - you have been offered admission!"

100 days until my final exams. I have all sorts of questions and considerations about finishing up gifts for profs, staying in touch, announcements, party, etc but I’d hate to ruin the moment with trivial questions.

Here's how I survived the waiting period last year:
 
1. Surrounded myself with supportive people who I knew would love me no matter what happened. Also, instructed said friends and family to never tell me that admission was a sure thing. 
2. Unsubscribed from all email lists (groupon, moveon, planned parenthood, etc). Seriously. Do that now. That daily groupon email will give you a heart attack every.single.time come late January.
3. Went on a really awesome two week vacation in January (Paris and Rome), so I was distracted and actually didn't want to check my email. Climbing the steps of the Eiffel Tower>Checking Email. However, if you can't swing a trip to Europe next month, even a weekend camping trip would do.
4. Read tons of YA fiction. My crack. Last year, I was all about The Fault in Our Stars, Code Name Verity, and Parable of the Sower.
5. Threw myself into work. Fortunately, I loved my job (teaching at a community college), so it was easy for me to do. 
6. Datatape's gifs. 'Nuff said.

Fuck it.  I'm submitting the remainder of my SoPs in middle English.  If this whole thing is going to be stupid, I'm going to be stupid right back.

I cut my sample to 13 pages including the works cited.  I refuse to mess with it anymore--between submitting it as a thesis, presenting it at a conference, and using it for apps, I hate and loathe it with a fiery passion, and if I read it one more time I'm going to grab a TARDIS and go back in time to strangle Geoffrey of Monmouth.
 
...All that to say, I don't think NYU will have a huge problem with that.  It's not like size 11 is pinpoint small.  And they have to know that it's getting used multiple places.  Or at least they should.
 
Also, can I get a general cry of hate for the schools who want the SoP to be 500 words or less?  750, I can do.  1000, I can do.  500-? asdlfkj;ljdsfalkjdf;.
 
Sorry, pent up frustration and "...you ever gonna write that letter?" anxiety building up over here.  Hope everyone's surviving.  Let us all drown sorrows in mashed potatoes.

Who else is freaking out?  Who else can't possibly look at that writing sample again without wanting to puke?  I mean, I know this is hard work, and a lot of hard work that I should expect, but the anxiety.... how do you refresh your brain?

I took the GRE again, and did much better on the verbal!!! Woo Hoo!! Just had to share that with someone, ha. My goal this time was to try not to be anxious at all when taking it, and it totally paid off. Now, about all the other materials....

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that requiring application materials to be sent through the mail does not do much to help literary study's image as being egregiously outdated.

Good luck Katia!  I edited this whole post after whining and moaning about the GRE and who wantsa hear about THAT anymore................I need a confidence booster, but whatever.  It's crunch time! (anybody else feeling positively insane???)

It's a horrifying realization, isn't it?  I keep having mini panic attacks, and where the hell did October go?  I was going to have everything so neatly finished and packaged by the end of it.  But suddenly it's November and nothing's ready and nothing's done and oh my god.
