yeah I emailed her back asking "didn't you just say..." To which she responded that the results came in right after our call. Maybe they're sending out the rejections first? A nice start to the weekend!

Re: Sep/Oct grants... Just speaking from my own experience but the graduate study grant application was an entirely different beast. The forms were much longer and I submittled about 4x the amount of materials as I did for the language intensive. They were also due about 5-6 weeks (depending on the field of study) earlier than the language grant app. I received notice for that one after about 4.5 months after submitting, so we're approaching a similar time frame here.

Spin it in a positive way, the longer they wait the fewer people can take it, the greater the chances are for those who really want it? It'd be nice if it worked that way. I need to close off the space this is occupying in my head.

I just called them and was told that they hope to have the results within the next week. Sounds like what they told Soprano last week... Hopefully they get the results before the end of the month.

The funding description doesn't make a lot of sense, from what I could tell €2,300 goes towards course tuition, living costs and expendibles, then there's the travel subsidy (relatively minor when you consider the cost of US->Europe flights in summer) and health insurance. I applied for Köln and Hamburg. The tuition for two months would take up the entire award amount, but it's worth it to have that cost covered either way.

Oh god the weekly newsletter just came out subject "SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!" I almost had a heart attack. The graduate arts grant I applied for had 29 applicants last year and two awards. I hope the chances are better here. I will try calling them again today if my lunch break doesn't line up with theirs.

To decide? Likely not very long considering how short notice this will be. I'm already assuming we won't hear today, but hopefully no later than next week. Does anyone know the number of applicants and awards given from previous years? I'm sure the influx of interest in Germany in this past year has caused a flood of A1 level applications for Berlin.

I just tried calling the main NY office but their off-hours message was on. I tried again with a direct extension, went to voicemail. I'm assuming that they closed early today since they should still be open for another half an hour.

This is torturous. I almost want to unsubscribe from their mailing list so I don't get too anxious when I see the weekly mailing tomorrow! I am wondering if there would but much harm in calling them at this point.

I am reluctant to check in with them personally but would be eager to hear what the state is of the Intensive Language grant (much like many of you). I emailed them in February regarding my application. I seem to recall when submitting it that they would give a confirmation of receipt 6-8 weeks after the deadline. They got back to me and said that they had received it and that I would be considered. Not a peep since (well I also applied for the graduate arts study grant but did not receive it). It's really unclear to me how the language grants are processed. I found a 2 year old FAQ that said the applications were pre-screened in their country of submission and then select applications were forwarded to Bonn for further review, then the office in Bonn snail-mails the results to the applicants. Backward bureaucracies.
