  1. Does anyone know a good place to get an apartment for someone coming with a cat?
  2. Look at Ohio schools. Some of them had rolling admissions and some didn't even require the GRE.

    Oxford, OH

What can anyone about Oxford, OH? it's one of my top 3 choices. school, city, part time job opportunities around the city, etc.?

    Akron, OH

Bumping up the topic for new info - school, city, part time job opportunities around the city, etc.?
  5. What can anyone tell me about Bowling Green - school, city, etc. If needed could I find a part time job?
  6. I'm interested too, seeing as Kent is one of my top 3 choices.
  7. I'm waiting a couple more weeks before deciding just in case I get money, but seeing as I'm a master's student I am not counting on it. If I don't get money my top 3 choices are Bowling Green State, Kent State, and Miami University.
  8. Anyone ehard anything more? I've now been accepted to 5 programs.
  9. Definitely abstract algebra and real analysis. If you're doing stats, make sure it's calc based stats. I would probably look more into other proof based courses like a basic proof course or a number theory course. The more experience you have, the better off you'll be. Maybe try for a PDE course or complex analysis. I guess as far as master's vs PhD, if you don't feel confident enough for a PhD at this time try for a master's and take that time to get your feel for graduate level work and what areas really interest you.
  10. I'm really having a hard time waiting on money. I've gotten into 4 schools, but no funding as of yet. I was told one school would let me know funding decisions in late March, but just one day one day seems so long to me now. Just not hearing from anyone about money is getting my spirits down.
  11. I just sent out some e-mails today to the last schools I haven't heard from. While it probably won't help a lot, it at least makes me feel better and helps knowing the status of my application. It's not gonna hurt me. I got word back from one school already. Sure, it was a rejection in response to my e-mail, but at least I'm not waiting around expecting them to give me a decision when in all reality they just haven't gotten around to telling me I've been rejected.
  12. I think it's perfectly fine to ask about decisions on other schools. My advisor just suggested that I state it nicely that I'm still interested in the program and ask when I should expect a decision on my application.
  13. Well, I am aware that you can get money for master's too. One of my programs only offers a master's and they still give assistantships.
  14. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has received any money offers in the form of a fellowship or assistantship. I applied for a master's program and have not heard any word on money yet. When would you think I should expect hearing about money and when is it ok to ask if they've offered money yet?
  15. It's hard to really do anything about the schools I've been accepted seeing as there is no word on money. I've acknowledged the acceptance, but am hoping for money.
  16. Yeah, I'm thinking if I don't hear anything from schools by April, I should see what's up. While I do have 4 acceptances and they are nice, the money is what I need, so I need to find out about that, too.
  17. I know I have been accepted to 4 and am waiting to hear on 3 others. When should I call about my application status of the 3 I have not heard from? I don't want to be pushy and call too early. When do you guys think is acceptable to start calling?
  18. I applied to Tennessee and was accepted. I'm waiting to hear on money before I make a decision.
  19. I am definitely relying on getting a TA. I know I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. If I didn't get a TA, I would probably go move to one of the schools that I got accepted to and work for a year and defer going there till the next year until I earned some money. Anyone know when money is usually offered? One school told me late March. Is that normal? While I do want to eventually go for a PhD, I want to see how much I like master's level work before committing to a PhD. I do want to be a math professor, so a PhD is needed, but if I only went for my master's I think I could go work as an instructor with just a master's.
  20. I would probably wait until at least mid March to start asking.
  21. I have not heard any news on Ohio University as far as being accepted or rejected yet. Earlier I had called all my schools to make sure that they had my application and all materials as far as transcripts, letters, etc had been received. Ohio University transferred me over to the math department and the secretary checked and she had everything. I would suggest calling to make sure they have everything of yours.
  22. Seeing as we already have a topic for PhD programs, I thought I'd start this topic for those only applying to master's programs at this time. So far, I've got 4 acceptances- Kent State University, Bowling Green State University, Miami University, and University of Tennessee. Only one rejection from University of Vermont, but they normally don't accept Vermonters.
  23. Looks like I may be going there too. I've got accepted to 4 master's program and am just waiting to hear on funding.
  24. Well, in all honesty, I would say any school that accepts me, but I really want to go to school in Ohio. I've already been accepted to 2 Ohio schools, so it's all gonna come down to money.
