  1. Thank you both for the feedback, that definitely makes me feel better about what I have heard from rumors. It definitely seems as though Harvard is a go and get it kind of school, so you have to put the effort in, but I would expect that from any school and am more than willing.

    Thanks again!!

  2. So I have been lucky enough to be accepted to both Harvard BBS and UCSD Biomedical Science. Obviously, Harvard has a name that anyone would recognize, brilliant research, and a great city but I am worried about the rumors you hear about how cut-throat it is. People keep telling me that there is competition within labs, and people sabotaging work, and I'm not sure I can work like that.

On the other hand, while UCSD may not be as "highly" ranked, it still has a lot of research I am interested in, a great city, and I think the possibility of a better quality of life due to a less cut-throat environment and the fact it is always sunny.

I guess what I am saying is- can anyone speak to if the rumors are true at Harvard BBS, or if they have chosen between the better academic school or the better quality of life school before, and why the chose how they did?

  3. Not sure if this is the right place to put this question, but I have a quick question about dress codes. Obviously the day with the interviews the dress is business casual, but for the other days that include more of the social events or the tours, is that also business casual, or more just casual while still looking decent? Also, all of them say dress nice but wear comfortable shoes.. which at least for women is a difficult thing to achieve at the same time. Any ideas?

WUSTL DBBS interview invite as well this morning. I don't like that they didn't give an interview date, but it's still awesome.

Now my fit/reaches are coming in, I might have to start really thinking about not accepting all the interviews..

Having the same problem now. I have my first overlapping interview so I have to take back one of my acceptances to interview.. this is actually stressful

@Metbio2016 pretty impressive list of invites accrued already there. Best of luck for more.

Thanks! Yeah I got a 4 last week which was earlier than the rush, so it looks a bit ahead of the game.

No mine is Feb 5th, and I'm waiting for someone from this forum to get those dates

Dang @Metbio2016 are you gonna attend all of those or drop some?

Right now the ones I have work out... I know Yale would overlap with Columbia (if I get a call from Yale) so one of those would have to be dropped. Depending on Harvard, UCSF, and Stanford I may have to drop some others, but I didn't want to wait to respond to the ones I had. I also may end up dropping some because a flight every weekend is a bit much...

The traditional Harvard date is December 19th (from the results survey) and UCSF is around the same time.  But I would expect that they could release them up until the 23rd.  Don't worry, you're not the only one sitting and waiting for those two!

No worries! We are all crazy right now (the big decisions coming out this week arent helping!!)

Man that's one of my top choices. fingers crossed. And also first few people that are interested in metabolism as well hi. I personally didn't like that the essay was only 500 words long, I don't think I did a great job on it :/

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what are the interview dates?

Yeah it seems like there aren't many metabolism people here!! I'm glad there is at least one other. And they said they did their first look at applicants yesterday so there are definitely more waves going out probably next week or something. The dates I was given were Feb 19-20th. Not sure if there are others being offered or if that is the only time.

Congrats!! I applied to the pathobiology & molecular med program, but was really tempted to go nutritional/metabolic. Hope my guys send interviews soon, although that's the program I'm least confident about getting into!

Thanks!! Yeah I was between those two programs as well. I'm sure you will get an interview! and hopefully soon!!
