  1. Hi guys, I'm applying to 16 different schools. 15 are in the same program and 1 is in a different program. One of my recommenders emailed me and said "I looked at your packet, and you are asking me to write letters for 16 different schools. That is A LOT of letters, and I can't guarantee I will have time for all of them." What is the best way to reply to this? Like I know she's doing me a huge favor, and I'm grateful, and I don't want her to change her mind because I need her rec letter. I already have "You're right, it's a lot of work to write 16 letters. It's ok with me if it's ok with you to send the same letter to each program. I did go a little bit overboard on the schools, all of the programs are amazing." typed up--would this be ok?
  2. Thank you for replying! I think that's what they were supposed to be doing but it's not what's been going on. I think at this point they just don't know what they're doing. I gave them peel off labels with the addresses of where they were supposed to send forms, and they gave me the forms & labels back. I just don't have any trust anymore. As a backup, I asked another lecturer if they would write a letter for me (she taught my research methods course, graded my research paper, got me to participate in a research competition, and I got an A in the class)
  3. Hi everyone! I have one professor and one lecturer for my letters of rec, but the third has been kind of murky. I just started an internship working with children this August. I work in a classroom & am supervised by the lead teacher, so I work closest with her. She has a bachelor's and is currently in grad school for her master's. She was ok with writing letters of rec for me, however, a couple weeks ago she kind of grew cold feet because the recommender forms ask for judges of academic ability (which I don't use at all during the internship). I'm not getting a grade or anything. She said to ask the person above her, the Director, to fill them out instead. This would be no problem, but the director has not worked with me at all. I've already sent around 4 letter requests to the Director's inbox and now I'm just scared. Which is best? Ask my lead teacher to write the letter of recs (even though she has a bachelor's. I thought this would be ok, to be honest). Just stick with a lukewarm/mediocre letter from the Director (she'll just reiterate the mid semester evaluation that the lead teacher wrote entirely) Ask my boss at work who has known me for over a year to write the letter (I'm a student assistant and I do mainly admin work, BUT she loves me and I know it'll be a great letter)
  4. got a c and not a b and I was like no. not reliving my first semester all over again
  5. These two people a table away from me keep whispering and I can't concentrate ughh I need complete silence
  6. Hi everyone, I'm taking my GRE on December 8 and I wanted to apply to a program that has a deadline of December 15. If I include that institution as one of my 4 free scores that I can enter the day of the test, will the scores be sent the same day as well?
  7. Thank you both!
  8. That's what I was thinking! I thought maybe they needed my SSN for funding packages? Like they were going to run a background check or something, see how broke I am and then be like "hmm, let's give this girl free tuition (LET ME DREAM)." Even at doctor's offices I don't give my SSN. I may call and ask.
  9. Make sure you account for weekends and holidays though. It't not just 15 days after whenever you take it. For instance, I'm taking my GRE December 8, but 15 working days from that will be December 29 due to Christmas and weekends.
  10. Hi everyone, I'm starting to fill out applications for grad schools but I am uncomfortable with giving out my social security number on applications for colleges I may not even be accepted in to. Is putting a social security number on applications mandatory? (like do the do a background check on all applicants?)If not, what can I put in the field where it asks for my social? Also, have any of you NOT put your social on applications you've applied to? Will it hurt my chances?
  11. Hey guys, Is US News a good source in terms of accurate GRE scores and acceptance rates? I wanted to apply to at least two or three of the least competitive schools out there.
  12. Hi everyone, I'm basically going to be an out-of-state student for the first year of whatever grad school I (hopefully) get in to. It's going to be rough monetarily; moving everything cross country, finding another apartment, ect ect. I've decided that I do want to get my EdS before my PhD, and I know there will be less funding in general for someone like me. Which states/schools that offer EdS programs are more likely to help students with tuition? I know the Northeast is supposed to be notorious for internships, but is it worth it in terms of everything else?
  13. Thank you! I did know about the 10-15 days part, I should have revised by question to be more like "if my grades aren't in by Dec 1, am I screwed?" I think I'm going to have to call the colleges individually and see if it's fine
  14. Hi, I have a GRE general exam date of November 21, and I want to apply to programs that have a December 1 application deadline. It won't get there in time (unless the quant/qual scores are sent automatically on the test date? i don't know). There are only 6 business days between the 21st and 1st. Will this be ok, or should I also book an October test date as well for backup and hope that I get in a good percentile? I haven't really studied much, which is why my date is so late. If anyone has any experience with Ball State and the Ohio State, would they still accept my application if everything else was in except for GRE scores?
  15. I'm also going to be applying for Fall 2016! Quick question: I am already in a lab for next semester, but there's an opportunity for me to join another one as well. The problem is is that in order for me to attend lab meetings, I would have to give up 3 hours at work (amounts to over $500 at the end of the semester). Am I ok with being in one lab, or should I give up the money and join another lab? Also, which schools offer dual degrees for the EdS program? I.E. MS/EdS. MA/EdS, and/or MEd/EdS programs? if you're in one right now, how are your classes going and are you getting paid for your internship? Only applying to one Northeast school, I'm hoping to get into schools in Virginia, Wisconsin, and Indiana. I just really do want to graduate with two degrees rather than one.
  16. Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place, let me know if I am! I'm going into my final year of college and I've decided I want to continue on with an EdS & PhD in School Psychology. I'm a Psychology and Child Development double major If I get straight A's this last year, I will have a 3.64 cumulative GPA, a 3.51 psychology GPA, and a 3.63 child development gpa. Right now i have a 3.5 cumulative, 3.47 psychology, and a 3.54 child development gpa. this will probably be on my resume. I've been doing a peer education volunteer program for the past semester (i give presentations on eating disorders to classes around campus and the community). it will be two semesters when i apply. I also got accepted into a peer mentoring program, and from my understanding I will be helping other students with Child Development classes. I will be doing an internship at a preschool starting fall semester. i'll be working with preschoolers and kindergarteners. it's an instructional unit and research laboratory. i'll also be joining a research lab for this next near. I'm a black female who lives in California. I don't want to stay in California, though--I just want to go anywhere to be honest, hopefully somewhere in the pacific north west or northeast. I will go anywhere, though, especially if they have good funding and are nice. I have not taken the GREs yet. What are the best places for me to apply? Do I have a chance of getting in anywhere, let alone a PhD program? I'm really scared and at this point i just want to get in anywhere, but hopefully where ever I go there will be funding.
