  1. Thank you for providing "a forum for hope!" My application had been "Under Review" for nearly a month, so I finally called the department and learned that I was first on a ranked wait list. I am pleased to report that I just received a personal email of acceptance from the chair of my doctoral program. I believe that God has a plan for each of us and that we'll end up exactly where we're meant to be! Although I'm not particularly religious, my mother reminded me to have faith during this challenging time. She reminded me that "faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen." Best wishes to all of you who as you transition from "waitlisted" to "accepted!"
  2. Syracuse Sociology is a WONDERFUL doctoral program. They are student-centered and really care about their community. In addition to the collegial atmosphere, Syracuse students and faculty produce dynamic scholarship, particularly as it relates to Aging, Social Policy, and the Life Course. They also have expertise in feminist and qualitative methodology. I earned a University Fellowship last year and had to decline due to family concerns. Congratulations on your acceptance to this program and to the Maxwell School. I will forever bleed orange!
  3. Great job! Your closing statement "As an undergraduate...propensity into a career" provides a memorable conclusion. You already sound like an expert. Good luck. ~Soc Doc
  4. Thank you (both) for such a thoughtful and thorough response! I live in sunny California, and while I would enjoy experiencing snow every now and again, I worry about my mental health in dreary Syracuse (thanks for providing a bright side, though: LOL "be prepared to make your own fun!"). The university seems like a wonderful fit, so it's definitely a tough call for me. I hope you have a wonderful graduate experience wherever you choose to go. Herself the elf, thanks for the invitation--I might send you a message regarding your experience as a student. What schools are you considering?
  5. There is a nice thread on life in the city of Syracuse in the "city guide" section.... Any other thoughts about living in Syracuse? Anyone out there?!?
  6. Welcome: This is a forum for all things Maxwell School! If you are in application to the Syracuse University doctoral program in sociology, please join in the discussion! If you have already received notification of your admission status, please also contribute to the development of this discussion community. Do you plan to visit Syracuse during the March, 2010 recruitment weekend? Are you considering other options? Looking forward to building a new Grad Cafe subculture with you. SocDoc
