  1. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad Institution: Selective Northeastern LAC Major(s)/Minor(s): Economics/Government Undergrad GPA: 3.4 Type of Grad: Regional University- Education Masters Grad GPA: 3.93 GRE: V 161, Q 170, AW 4.5 Any Special Courses: Letters of Recommendation: My Two Undergraduate Advisors, (Econ, Poly Sci) and my Graduate Advisor (Secondary Education) Research Experience: One Conference Presentation for Masters Thesis Teaching Experience: 1 year Economics TA, 2 years of teaching AP courses at a boarding school. Subfield/Research Interests: Comparative RESULTS: Acceptances($$ or no $$): Syracuse ($$) Oregon ($$) Albany, Buffalo, Uconn ($$) Waitlists: Rejections: Ohio State, Brown, Brandeis Pending:CU Boulder Going to: ??? LESSONS LEARNED: Funding situations for lower ranked schools seem to be pretty poor. I'd like to think my work experience, GRE and grad school GPA helped to offset my undergraduate GPA in an applicant field where most student apply with a 3.7 or higher. If I was to go back, I'd take more cracks at top 30 schools and apply to a few less safety schools, since many were unable to afford funding. That said, I'm pretty satisfied with where I expect to end up.
  2. Seems like this was a busy cycle with a lot of applications to all programs.
  3. Seems as though, for its rank, Brown is disproportionately hard to get into
  4. Sounds good. As a full time teacher and dorm parent, sadly I wont get time for any of the visitation weekends. Hopefully doesn't cut into my funding chances in some of these places.
  5. Could be someone just didn't post it until now and forgot to adjust the date.
  6. Keep checking the results page. Enough people apply that I'd guess we'll know as soon as they start releasing.
  7. I bet a lot of decisions get released tomorrow.
  8. Still waiting on Brown, Syracuse, and a few others. Already have a few funded acceptances.
  9. How in the world would a top 10 program not offer funding?
  10. Those of us without an acceptance from CU Boulder are probably going to the rejection pile. I know that Syracuse started reviewing applications last week.
  11. I don't want to be too specific, for obvious reasons. Very generally- Public opinion, voting patterns across demographics, and political economy.
  12. Hoping for results from Syracuse, Brown, maybe Oregon soon.
  13. Got into UConn, but the stress isn't quite over. No funding information yet.
  14. Could it be another fan of the Austrian School?
  15. Hoping that history holds true to form and CU Boulder releases results this week.
  16. Yeah I think those of us still pending are bound for rejection or, at best, waitlisting.
  17. Seems GWU released their preliminary results today.
  18. Makes me feel a lot better about 4+4 chances at a mid ranked school. Still have to get in first though. Thanks! On publications and other things factoring in to TT jobs... is teaching your own classes as a grad student beneficial at all, compared to just working as a TA? Or are publications pretty much the be-all end-all?
  19. Thank you. As someone who loves teaching and is looking at a mid-to-lower ranked programs (besides dream schools) that's a huge weight off my mind.
  20. Can't imagine why, those are almost immaculate numbers.
  21. A lecturer position pays much more than my current high school teaching gig, so... not really worried about it. Don't plan on being one of the 10% not placed, either.
  22. Looking at the reported decisions over the years, looks like the very earliest people start to hear back is late January, with more of the decisions in Feb/MArch
  23. Why is getting a tenure track professorship such a priority for so many people? Those positions are more and more rare and I know plenty of lecturers, CC professors and private high school teachers who love their careers.
