  1. Danke! He looks so happily high. I'm sad because reddit is down. But happy that this happened: http://nypost.com/2016/02/02/jebs-awkward-plea-to-young-voter-i-want-to-be-your-first/
  2. I can't imagine that anything less than an acceptance would be good news! I wonder if that means that Fordham is releasing soon. :X
  3. Damn, girl. You're killing it!
  4. I have been as well. I still haven't heard back from Emory. :/
  5. Should everyone who applied to Emory have heard back by now? Or do they do rounds?
  6. I feel you. It all seems terribly contrived. I've often wondered about the ME white thing. Is there any way for you to highlight that seamlessly?
  7. My bad. I didn't know that the point of these diversity questions was to move others with stories of my struggles. I'll try harder next time to make me seem more worthy of those fellowships.
  8. Ugh. They seriously need to change that. Both my parents are Colombian. My mom is darker than my dad, because my dad's family is white as hell. My dads dad's family is descended from conquistadors. My mom's dad was Afro Colombian. My mom's mom is Spanish and indigenous. Both my parents came here illegally in the 80s and eventually got citizenship. Spanish is my native language, and I didn't learn English until I was 5, but I was born in the US. I'm light skinned naturally but even a hint of sun makes me turn brown. But I'm not white, or African, or indigenous. It seems remarkably unfair to have to choose since we don't really categorize that way in South America. And on top of that, I don't even know how to answer the native language question. BS, I tell you! They need to find better questions to ask if they want to legitimately increase diversity.
  9. I should probably take this as an opportunity to talk about all my struggles and stuff... And about how BS it is to expect me to select a race when I'm Hispanic. It isn't easy. At all.
  10. Yeah. I guess it makes sense, though.
  11. Aiyoooo. Congratulations!!
  12. Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. They told me I was the first person they accepted and they nominated me for a fellowship. I have to write a second statement of purpose for that due next week, which is probably why they contacted me so early. But yeah, I agree, it is super early. I don't think they're done accepting people.
  13. Thanks! Mary Rawlinson
  14. Just got accepted to the PhD program at Stony Brook via email.
  15. Honestly, the only reason I applied was because it's free for CUNY students. But a lot of my professors teach at the Grad Center and advise against going there. It's difficult to work with some of the professors on the list and, very often, some of those professors haven't taught at the Grad Center in a while. That being said, I know a lot of grad students there and none have complained about funding to me, but I wouldn't be surprised. I heard bad things about their resources as well. But the NY consortium thing is pretty rad.
