  1. Oh shit. Now I get it! Continental drift (I said shift tho cuz idk what I'm talking about, apparently) ! Damn. It took me making the joke in my head to understand how clever you are (because, I, too, am clever, see?).
  2. Ugh. I can't even upvote you. TGC has to increase our rations!
  3. Or is that a guy philosophizing with a hammer??!? Hmmm? Hmmm??
  4. Goddammit. I gotta be funnier in the morning.
  5. Oh guys. Forgot to let you all know that Kanye is trying to get a philosophy PhD this cycle.
  6. where are you gonna apply?? I I was thinking that if I struck out this year, I'd apply to university college Dublin for an MA.
  7. Let's hope "eeeps" don't turn into weeps!! Eeeeeep!
  8. Hm. That's a good point. But they didn't ask for it to be concise. They just said "send over the paper on active intellect." And it's a thesis so I guess it's gonna be long. I provided guidelines for the initial writing sample so they would only have to read 15-20 pages of they wanted to. But I sent the whole thing because I couldn't think of anything to take out.
  9. I thought it was Feb 18, no? Anyway, the email was sent one week ago and she said they won't be deciding for "several weeks". But several weeks is 7 weeks or thereabouts and that seems like a looooong time.... So she probably meant a couple of weeks... which is 2 weeks! Which means this coming week!!! Eeeeee. This was a message from CPAMP, btw. I suppose that could mean my app went through the normal department already? dunno. So much speculation...
  10. My advisor, who happens to be cool with Gerson (they've worked together a lot) gave me some advice but I had already sent the paper in. He told me to stall for a few days. But I got nervous when I saw the predicted release date and edited a few things and sent it out the same day I got the original request email (one week ago). The next day, my advisor have me the detailed list of things I could do to make my paper better, but it was too late. To be fair, he just said to add more scholarship, and I already have a 3 page bibliography, so it wouldn't make too but a difference. Another thing is that that paper turned out nothing like how I originally wanted it because my classics advisor was somewhat unsupportive. My friend read it recently and laughed because apparently the ending (42 shallow pages into the paper) reads something like , "It's just bullshit, okay? So let's not."
  11. I agree with the above posters. Askphilosophy is my favorite. Wokeupabug also happens to be my favorite internet celebrity.
  12. I guess you guys are right. Unless, of course, they thought my first was entertainingly bad. But the papers were 40+ pages each, and that seems like a long way to go for a bad joke. But it I guess what I'm wondering is what they could be looking for in the second paper. I mentioned the second paper in my SOP and I use Lloyd Gerson as a main source, so perhaps he wanted to see what's up? And now I'm afraid I accidentally plagiarized. I'm pretty sure I didn't, but like... What if? I think I may have reused one of my own paragraphs in both papers and now I'm thinking omg, what if that's totally not allowed? I mean, I doubt it is, but what if they hold it against me?
  13. I'm active in basically every philosophy subreddit. Besides r/philosophy...
  14. I asked this a few days ago and it seems to have gotten buried in another thread. I got an email from Toronto asking me to send them another paper I had written (my Classics thesis). I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and/or what could be deduced from such a request. It's making me anxious.

  16. That's how I felt about Emory.
  17. In NYC, if you want to get a junior drivers license, you have to sit through 5 hours of defensive driving classes, memorize Sinatra's NY, NY, and recognize quotes from at least 3 Woody Allen movies.
  18. I'm neither published nor from a prestigious school and I think I'm doing quite well. So I'm not sure if the top school is really such a thing. If I had to guess what the committee is going on, I'd guess it's my writing sample and my rec letters.
  19. It's like that Woody Allen thing about Van Gogh... I think it's pronounced like Kierke-gur or some such but I pronounce it Kierke-guard and have almost always heard it that way. I also pronounce Sartre as Sart, and I will continue to, simply because a friend I had was Sartre's godson and he pronounced it Sart.
  20. VENTING: Did anyone else get that condescending Team Snapchat message? They're on the beach and everyone is in love and fuck you, Snapchat.
  21. Minerva is 5 today. Well, her birthday is probably not today, but when we got her, she was around 7 weeks old, and her birthday would have been some time around Valentine's day, so I put Valentine's day on her vet documents. She's a shelter dog, and apparently mixed slightly with something else, so she's a little bit bigger than a regular beagle and her snout is a teeny bit longer. This is her with a dog I take care of (whose name is Brooklyn Hercules):
  22. "No take backsies!"
  23. Princeton is calling today like, "Will you be mine?"
  24. If you haven't gotten an explicit rejection yet, I'd say that you shouldn't give up hope. Don't borrow troubles, as it were. Some schools on your list don't seem to have released anything at all.
