  2. ETH Zurich requires that recommendations be sent via post. So I kinda checked out what my recommender had written for me. Turns out he had a template in which he had left some space for the university (as X university). Which I now doubt he sent to all of the universities I had applied to without doing anything about it. Will that majorly impact my decision? I am fearful of the fact that this might end up hurting my chances of getting into my shortlisted schools :|
  3. Thank you so much! So many good people applying for few spots. Tough times ahead!
  4. The video bit is totally unnerving considering its complementary nature in addition to the application. Don't know if I stand much of a chance but still will post my background. Debater? Blogger? Really love the university and the program but it is a bit heartbreaking to know that they are so selective and I won't probably get through. Sort of banking on my diversity (not many apply from India) which is the case for most of the programs I have applied to in other universities.
  5. As in? Most department webpages specifically recommend you to apply for their PhD program if you are ultimately interested in a PhD

Do I apply for an MS or a PHD? And is the list too ambitious or far fetched?
  7. Need serious help over choosing a Masters or a PhD degree. I have a 8.36/10 from an IIT level college (Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad) in Environmental Engineering and a GRE score of 332 (162-V 170-Q AWA 5.0), TOEFL 118, a research intern under a renowned professor at Aberdeen and some industrial experience in decent places. No research publications but the work which I did in my internship is the stuff I want to do going on forward. I ultimately would like to do a PhD and teach. However I am daunted by the prospect of applying for a PhD straightaway as it would require more than decent research experience and publications. Masters are often not funded and that is an issue. What do I do? Which one is the more realistic option for someone like me?
  8. Prospective PhD candidate from India. I'm in the last year of my undergrad studies here in Environmental Engineering from a top 10 college (IIT), have decent grades (8.36/10), decent GRE (332/5.5) and TOEFL (118) scores, an internship under a decently well known professor at the University of Aberdeen. Sorry if this sounds like a profile evaluation but I just wanted to ask whether I should apply to the colleges from whom I haven't gotten any reply regarding a PhD. Or should I apply regardless of that fact and then should I proceed onto contacting a guide. I found conflicting answers everywhere and it would be really nice if someone could clear the air on this and suggest how I go about this.
