  1. The funniest bit is that I already spent a summer at the University of Aberdeen where it was rainy and windy throughout. And Seattle is also pretty much the same. So weather shouldn't be much of an issue!
  2. Hello Huskies. I will be joining for my Masters in Environmental and Forest Sciences. The stipend is $2100-ish and I was wondering whether it'd be possible to completely sustain myself on that (do not want to take any financial assistance from parents) in an expensive city like Seattle. As an international student, I could not really visit the campus and city beforehand. So if I were to come to Seattle in September, would there be any affordable places left (<$700-650)? Thank you. I am already stoked as Seattle looks like a brilliant, liberal city!
  3. Stanford would be better, career wise and location as well. Plus if you are comparing cost wise, then Stanford is 30k extra which is not a huge increment on the 20k you were planning to forego.
  4. i think Georgia Tech would be better if one were to just consider the ranking. But then your specialization and the professor who'll be supervising you plays an equally important role as well. International applicant?
  5. Stanford EESS rejection. Generic mail. Finally out of the way atleast.
  6. Have a PhD admit from UIUC NRES and a fully funded MS from UW SEFS. Will most probably choose the latter. No word yet on MIT EAPS or UC Davis Soils or Stanford EESS so I reckon I have already been rejected. Congratulations to all who got in!
  7. I did. My POI told me that I was not in the pool of selected students.
  8. UIUC for PhD in Natural Resource and Environmental Science and UW for MS in Environmental and Forest Science. Have applied to environmental engineering departments as well.
  9. Fortunately yes. I got into UWashington SEFS and then I declined the UIUC NRES offer. Still waiting on other decisions but not optimistic at all.

  11. Not much clue. Did not apply there. Anyhow activity seems to be a bit low on this thread.

  13. I asked him whether he'd be accommodating enough to extend the deadline till the end of Feb. Hopefully he will accede to this. Thanks!
  14. I have been in regular contact with a professor at UIUC who's pretty positive about me and also stated that he'd nominate me for a fellowship. He then mails me telling that I will receive my offer letter soon and that I have to revert back by Feb starting. I am pretty chuffed about this but at the same time I do not want to miss out on getting into other colleges who I've applied to and whose results would come later. So what do I do? Any help would be appreciated
  15. Completed mine by November mid. Still have this one pending application which depends on how good my Skype interview went with a professor at UW Madison!
  16. I think you have a pretty decent shot if you nail your SoP. I am a freshie so am pretty sure they won't take me. But then I have applied for an MESc and was also in touch with a professor at Yale. Still slim chances.
  17. I think the last date for writing your exams (GRE/TOEFL) is the 15th. You better ask your recommenders to submit theirs by tomorrow as you wouldn't want to take any chances with that. The online interview can be taken until the 22nd so that should be fine. And yes, the interview is only after you've paid the 80 quid.
  18. The link was on my application status page after I had submitted the same.
  19. The interview deadline is the 22nd if I correctly believe. Anyhow plan to give it on the 12th or 13th of December. Would advise you not to overthink on your PS. I was a bit frank in my PS as to why I wanted to study in Yale.
  20. I have submitted my application but haven't done the interview bit. I am sorry I was a bit ambiguous. I was comparing the interview to the TOEFL Speaking section on which I did not have a great experience, owing to, a large part of, to the testing centre! Nothing to do with this though.
  21. It is a video interview as I went through the preliminary microphone testing and all that jazz. I am guessing there will be general questions just to gauge one's verbal ability and the ability to communicate, in the context of FES. I hope the experience is better than the TOEFL speaking section!
  22. Does anybody have a clue as to what they ask in the online interviews?
  23. Thank you much for your advice! In India, it's pretty common practice for prospective grad students to write their own reco-letters as most of our professors aren't good enough to write one, unfortunately, even at the best institutions in the country. I did waive my right. Not implying that my professors did the same and then consequently there is a certain degree of trust between professors and students, especially the ones whose recommendations you seek. Hope that typo doesn't end up ruining things for me :|
