  1. I kind of doubt they put much weight into the university you say you're going to attend unless you're already attending/have letters from there.
  2. I was just stating a fact.
  3. Current year is now set as 2017; it was 2016 while the 2017 results were not available.
  4. I think if that were the case the 2017 awards list should be back up.
  5. Yeah, I think that's just further confirmation that they've just been working on the registration/account changes or whatever.
  6. Would be in line with the government ‘s recent trend-bucking initiatives.
  7. Seems pretty unlikely at this point, especially since there's an alternative explanation for the maintenance announcement with the upcoming changes.
  8. It would've been really surprising had they responded, "Yep, looks like the results will be out on ______".
  9. Agreed, and the strongest evidence would be an announcement directly on the GRFP home page.
  10. If it is related, we would need a maintenance announcement for tonight to tomorrow morning. Either no maintenance announcement and results tomorrow morning or results on Saturday morning would go against the strong prior of Tuesday/Friday and maintenance night before to morning of.
  11. I agree: it's more likely that both announcements were made at the same time than that people missed the initial one and only posted when both were up.
  12. So assuming the order in that post was the same as the order on NSF alerts, the Friday to Saturday alert was posted prior to the Thursday to Friday. Perhaps there's still a chance!
  13. Maybe they've been watching these threads and decided to go against the Tuesday/Friday expectation
  14. lol, yeah. i live on the west coast, and my half-awake thought was "well, it is raining..."
  15. And yet that person also commented "A colleague from National Science Board (NSB) that is a part of NSF says the awards will likely be announced on Friday morning" on the other thread...
  16. Also, why would NSF tell the PI (presumably a reviewer) when the results would be posted? Doesn't seem like they would need to know.
  17. the reddit "NSF insider" deleted his/her comments
  18. lol, I have a visualping monitoring the NSF alerts page, and it just emailed me... to let me know they unhighlighted the 9/29/17 alert. :<
  19. I really hope it's tomorrow or Tuesday, but that alert is the same one as last Saturday. Based on previous years, it seems like it's typically a different timeframe (e.g. 10pm-5am).
  20. Thanks for the advice! I accepted the invite right away because the trip is fully paid for(!), and based on their webpage it's fully funded and gives a stipend (just a matter of how much). I also felt a lot better after looking at the faculty list, which includes almost all of the labs I was interested in. I'm very excited, but it just felt a little too good to be true for being rejected from the neuro side.
  21. so UC Berkeley told me last night that they could not offer me an invite for neuroscience but that I would be a great candidate for their vision science program. My interest is studying visual perception in psychiatric populations via neuroimaging so I'm not totally surprised. Since they transferred my application to vision science, I got an invite today. Questions: 1) is this normal/worth it? 2) does anyone know how different the programs are in terms of classes, funding, etc.? 3) is it better based on my interests to go into vision science at UC Berkeley (if admitted) or wait another year to try for neuroscience? I'm just a little skeptical about the whole situation...
